I'm just wondering why there is no any coverage of this painful disorder in school books or any doctor have enough information or education and any media at least tell people just a little bit about this problem and raise awareness to prevent it. Prevention is easy at no cost. Do you know how much is being spent on PA and B12 deficiency patient for tests after test with no results and finally if the patient happens to be so persistent then label it with fibromyalgia. At least governments can provide proper supplements for people like me who is suffering . Why I have to buy B12 ampoules from Germany? In the whole of my life I couldn't even find an article regarding this problem that's why I wasn't ready to prevent it. My friend this disorder or illness requires lots of patience since pain weakness numbness 24/7 is with you. Please understand your partner.

Hamayeshguy,I understand my partner, and know exactly what he is going through, I had it nearly 20 years ago and he took care of me then. Even he knows from my experience it takes a few months, l have tried to reassure him but this is the first time he has been poorly in 75 years, walked miles and did gardening, So it has come as a bit of a shock to his system. Patience it not one of his best attributes! Lol

ON the NHS website regarding B12 it says a particular drawback of testing B12 levels is that currently widely used blood tests only measure total b12 and not active.

If they know this why do they not change the range and up the starting point for treatment.

2 it also mentioned that results up to 400 could be borderline.

It does frustrate me that they know all this yet do not treat people until they are on their knees and then have to endure months of recovery.

3 why not make b12 vials available over the counter to known sufferers.

I would just like to add that I have too take some responsibility for his decline , I should have put his tablet with his breakfast every morning instead of relying on him taking them.

Certain medical conditions

The list goes on.

It's not on thd list on the blood form,,????

So annoying

As for your partner .

Tell them it's a good sign to have the energy fir impatience but dont waste it !!

My husband after 2 weeks thought j shoujd be okay by now !!

So used to me being well and bouncing back ftom illness.

He's learnt alot of patience and alot of new skills like toilet cleaning and and 🤣even doing Christmas dinner tomorrow 😋

I've not take on all the other stuff he does lijd paid work

in reply toNackapan

Nackapan,

When I developed B12 deficiency I wanted to know the reasons why, what it does to the body etc. I even contacted a doctor who wrote a book and met sally another author and martyn Hooper at Westminster in 2008.

I wrote to my family, cousins etc to enlighten them, all but one at the time ignored my advice, my cousin wrote back a thankyou note she had anaemia. SInce then 6 of us got the condition.

I have tried to educate my partner even showing him responses on here. He's not totally convinced or though when I take him breakfast he does ask if the b12 tablet is on the tray.(one step in the right direction)

I am very patient, unfortunately he's not. Jokingly I said to his daughter in law this morning he thinks he will be able to run the London Marathon next year.

Your comment regarding your husband thinking you'd be better after two weeks I can understand as so many people think one b12 shot will cure you instantly... if only!

Yes at times my patience are tested ... normally by other humans who have a fixed idea in there head and cannot see others point of view.

For instance the young generation who want to rewrite history. History is history.

Wow! Thank you for your campaigning and your insight into this! Your marvels never cease!

Good luck with your husband - I know you will do all the right things and so feel unable to offer anything much!

How about getting him to put time into perspective by working out how many days or hours or minutes he's been on the planet and how many of those he's been unwell for?

75 years is 27,375 days and yet 3 months is only 90ish days.

He's been around for about 300 times longer than the 3 months so in the grand scheme of things it's not too long to wait!

Think how quickly Christmas has come up from when he first felt wonky and think he'll start to feel better in the same amount of time again - no time at all really!

I bet his unhappiness is making time slow up for you though! 😁

I'm just glad he's heading in the right direction now. X

Denise, sometimes reading your replies just gives me the energy to get up and go again.

I was probably a little low, being Christmas and so frustrated that even his own daughter could not ring him on christmas day to find out how he was or wishing him happy xmas. I shouldnt of been surprised as had years of just hearing from her when she wants things.

Just a quick update,

After wishing the other half a happy birthday,

Never ever in a million years did I expect him to say, next week will you give me another B12 injection.

IS this a DREAM?

It may be hard to believe Hamayeshguy but, having thoroughly researched, fought and failed to get sufficient treatment for a close family member, I'm now certain that today's medical system is focused primarily on obtaining money to run the surgeries by concentrating on the prescription of pharmaceutical drugs - there's no money in treating PA/B12 deficiency........

All the research papers I supplied plus the fact that Whipple, Murphy, and Minot won Nobel prizes for their research, meant nothing.

After suspected Addison's Disease last year though, I wrote to my surgery enclosing a copy of Dr J. Chandy's book, "B12 Deficiency in Clinical Practice", pointing to chapter 7 on the link between PA/B12def. and AD.

I think they must have read it, because they did eventually offer a test for intrinisic factor!

Dr Chandy's book is freely available to read on line here, chapter by chapter:

Yesterday, he went to physio therapy (private as 13 week waiting list). Physiotherapist very good a bit of therapy and ultrasound. He mentioned b12 deficiency and she said that the tablets he was taking were pretty useless and injections get straight into the system. She also said that the majority of her paitence have b12 deficiency. She explained that b12 will help in recovery of nerve ends. She gave him her card, said that he didnt really need to go to her again.

So now he wants another injection !

Funny how listening to the physio he can't get enough b12 !

🙄

Oh how galling! I hear your frustration! I suffer from exactly the same sort of thing and grumble to myself, just the same.

One of my specialities is animal training and a lady I worked for years ago had trouble with her dogs. I offered her some good advice, basically for free. A few weeks later she told me that what I'd suggested was good advice and was working because she'd got a specialist dog trainer to come in for £150 a time for several sessions and that person had said exactly what I'd said!

At least he has the excuse of brain fog due to the B12d and things like that. His senses are probably more acute if he's with a stranger.

Hey, ho! Tumti-Tum!

At least you will get the right outcome and can just be grateful for that... And know that I and lots of others here really value your supreme knowledge, experience and care.

Lots of love! xx

in reply todeniseinmilden

Hi, I had to laugh ! But successfully administered the third Injection today

👍He is on the road to recovery thank goodness

No more chopping wood, getting dustbin out and I will be able to remove 1inch of dust everywhere

Ha ha !

I would pester my family over twenty years to get tested. My youngest brother couldn't face me and tell me he had b12 deficiency, and told the other half to tell me...... as though I was going to bite his head off...... I was just relieved especially as he had fallen over a month before !

Well I appreciate your knowledge and encouragement!

Nothing beats the relief of knowing that your loved ones are getting better, however it's come about, does it! xx

in reply todeniseinmilden

Just to catch up, he weighed himself last night lost over 1 stone in weight, in less than two months,The good news his appetite is back, clean plates no throwing his dinners away !

Have to laugh he tried too do a little this morning now sat down huffing and puffing. He insists on going for a walk this afternoon ... will see how far he gets !

He did say he didnt feel like a zombie anymore, but did mention a funny feeling in his face ! (Tightness sort of thing)

One bonus he is educating himself regarding b12 !

Once well enough my last mission is to get him to self inject. (Maybe one mission to far!)

😜

In many ways thanks to this website, as I have been showing him other peoples comments.

The fact that other people have exactly the same experience has made him think !

😃👍 Progress and.... Peace!

It's good to know he's a fighter too and obviously knows the infinite benefits of walking. Any distance he can manage will stand all his body and soul in good stead so that's great!

in reply todeniseinmilden

Yes he use to walk miles.

This morning he said last night he was sweating alot during the night and had to kick off the duvet.

( hes In the spare room)

This happened to me and wondering if anybody else has had that experience.

I did mention to him that when I was recovering and started walking again I would get so far and come over really hot and breathless.

deniseinmilden profile image
deniseinmilden in reply to

I definitely get sweaty at night sometimes. I usually start off frozen through when I'm tired and it takes a while to warm up enough to get to sleep and then at some point I wake up boiling hot. And it's not hormones either.

My thermoregulation was completely shot to bits when I had a lot of B12d damage and unless I was between 65 & 70° F I found it hard to cope. It's one of the best things about my recovery because I like working outside and I can manage fairly well between 50 & 80F now and am OK below that with enough clothes. 👍 X
