Why is it every other day injections and not daily?

PointOfReference profile image

Does anyone know why it's EOD for injections in the UK? I know it's NICE guidelines, but what is the reason for every other day?

Is it to reduce resources for nurses?

Otherwise, why would you not do a daily injection for a week or more?

Surely daily would aggresively attack the problem and resolve things quickly?

Or would it overload the system?

I don't know.Thd loading doses differ from. Country to country

I certainly found every other day very hard to tolerate. Let alone daily.

I found it aggressive enough. Going from 106 to over 2000

Woujd be interesting to know why different countries set it differently.

Also as always given in the upper arm difficult. My arms got so sore.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to tolerate. I'm doing a loading dose at the moment very and It's just killing my bladder. :(

Yes it was 2 years ago now and for several months. Settled at present on every5- 6tb day (depending on how you count)

My main problem at the time was the stirring uo of my nervous system. .

Jitters, daily headaches, sometines migraines stuck to the spot, balance issues, very sore spots on hairline face and neck. Nausea. Visual disturbances. Tinnitus . Razor like soreness in my ears.head pressure, sensitive scalp. (Coukdnt uses a brush) Light sensitivity noises sensitivity ......And so on.

I kept going though and I got walking and out of bed for a few hours .

I distinctly remember the water moving too much in the bath so felt 'sea sick'

Yes and bladder and bowel disruption.

So if anyone struggling on loading doses keep going.

At one point I wondered if I wax being poisoned . (Paranoia and anxiety not gone at that stage)

For me it has been a very very gradual improvement.

Bit like the gradual onset/slow decline of the deficiency in the first place ending in dramatic falls and a collapse and forgetting where the plates are kept .

So still waiting fir thr opposite when I can do a hop skip and a jump!!!

Although actually I'd be very satisfied with a steady walk of more than half a mile or a decent cycle ride .

The delicate balance if persevering but not pushing too hard aa old habits of 'pushing through do not work

.

Relatively speaking of course.

.

Hope you see benefits soon . Also your bladder settles.

I still swear by lemon barley water to line an irritated bladder.

It's the barley. I've not really suffered much with my bladder but my mum has and tried all sorts . Then back to lemon barley water.

Sadly the reason this is causing me such terrible pain is that I also suffer from another autoimmune ailment called interstitial cystitis which means many meds and food can cause me awful pain and damage to my bladder lining. I do hope that I can get through this because my PA symptoms are (like yours) very severe. :(

it is, on average, the balance between building levels in blood and the B12 being removed by the kidneys - the higher serum B12 the quicker it is removed by the kidneys

Thanks very helpful

Does it make a difference which cobalamin is used, do you know?

I noticed that SACDC is treated with 7 days of daily injection to aid recovery.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Could it be Cyanocobalamin thats being used here, which doesn't stay in the system so long?

Gambit62 profile image

it could be - on average hydroxo is retained twice as long as cyano but I haven't looked in detail at any of the science.

Is cynocobalamin retained twice as long as Hydroxocobalamin?? I thought it the other way round?

Gambit62 profile image

Thanks you are correct - hydroxo is, on average retained 2x as long as cyano - have edited original response to correct

Interesting question.

Seems, from my research, that EOD is the sensible approach so that your muscles rest and recover over an extended period. You don't want to inject into the same muscle more than twice a week.

So, alternating two muscles (each arm or each leg) every other day stops the risk of harm drom multiple jabs. And Hydroxo stays in the system long enough for this to happen.

Not what you're looking for?
