One week into losing doses

Hi all,

I’m one week into a loading does of hydroxy with lots of cofactors taken.

I’m still worse than ever. It was explained I might be tired and have more neuro symptoms which has been the case.

I’m showing no sign of improvement and actually worse. The tiredness, fatigue and dizziness are crazy .

Is this normal?

Thanks

Hi Snickalous

It is not uncommon for some symptoms to appear to get worse before they get better as the B12 you are having starts repairing the damage done to your nervous system and your brain starts getting multiple messages from part of the body it had "forgotten about" or lost contact with.

I sometimes liken it to a badly tuned radio on which you have turned the volume up high trying to catch the programme you want when all of a sudden the signal comes in loud and clear and the blast nearly deafens you.

A lot will depend on the severity and longevity of your B12 deficiency as to how long before there is no further improvement or recovery.

Some symptoms will "disappear" quite quickly whereas others may take months or even years. There is no set timescale as we are all different.

I am not a medically trained person but I've had Pernicious Anaemia (one of many causes of B12 deficiency) for nearly 50 years.

I wish you well.

Thanks . That’s very kind. My symptoms came on very quickly 3 months ago. Typical of b12 and if it’s on the symptoms list iv had it.

Thanks for advice

symptoms coming on very suddenly is more characteristic of folate deficiency than B12 deficiency. B12 usually builds up over years or even decades which is one reason why it isn't necessarily noticed - though symptoms can start to roller coster. It may be worth checking what your folate levels were like in the blood test that diagnosed B12 deficiency. If you were folate deficient as well then treating B12 deficiency first is the right thing to do but that only means 28-48 hours after your first shot before starting folate supplementation.

Because folate and B12 are both used in a number of key processes the symptoms overlap and correcting a deficiency in one won't correct a deficiency in both

I used to get a bad reaction to hydroxoB12 injections because my potassium levels are borderline at best (which is another story). I could avoid a bad reaction, which took a few days to appear, to B12 by taking potassium supplements. In my case I had to take 1,000 to 2,000 mg of elemental potassium but many over the counter potassium supplements contains only 99mg.

I can't say this is what is happening with you but many people report a lowering of potassium while others are okay.

That’s interesting. I have pernicious anaemia and have episodes of atrial fibrillation which I have realised start when my potassium drops just below range so have upped potassium. No medics have linked the low potassium with pa

Many of us felt worse after starting injections, clivealive explained this very well. You should soon start to feel improvement in some symptoms although others will seem worse before starting to slowly improve.
