How long do PA symptoms last after the loading doses?

I've just had my loading doses (6 over two weeks) after my B12 being as low as 79. I have near constant muscle twitches all over my body (neck, stomach, hands, arms, legs, feet) which are waking me up during the night - wondering if anyone had any experience with how long these take to subside?

I also have broken out with acne after the loading doses - does anyone have any idea how long this takes to subside or any remedies that speed it up?

Many thanks!

Sounds like a fairly typical experience. I got plenty of muscle twitching during loading doses, which is the nerves waking up, and it subsided after a few weeks.

Be assured that its the body sorting through historic stuff since youve been deficient. If you're twitching, you're healing, and it will go with time.

Similar story with acne, i.e. you should find they go away after a few days. Soap and water and plenty of rest may help speed things up.

Thank you! I was really worried about the twitching but relieved to know its fairly common and will subside eventually.

I wasn't told about any of these side effects at the doctors. My nurse actually told me yesterday that the acne isn't related to the injections though this site has revealed a different story!

Are there any other common side effects that I should be aware of?

Oh dear. Maybe the nurse didn't have much experience with it? Acne is a frequent side effect. Something linked to homocysteine levels, it is thought. And no-one wants excess homocysteine in their system! 😀

Some people find symptoms get worse for a while, as you recover, but will start to get better afterwards.

Do you feel your pre-load symptoms have cleared up ?

Yeah I'm not sure. Thanks for the info that's really helpful.

Exhaustion was the overwhelming symptom pre-injections and I definitely have improved energy levels now which I'm very happy with. I was sleeping 16 hours average and was just waking up to eat and go back to sleep pretty much. I went for a run the other day and got a completely numb right foot though. Had some numb feet and hands before but not that bad.

I also had some twitching pre-injections, but as I've said they've worsened recently. Hopefully that will improve too as you've said!

The raised spots we get as a side effect of B12 injections is not acne - it just looks similar. They respond well to soothing skin creams. The main thing is not to use acne treatments and to try hard not to scratch them.
