B12 results help please

I have received my results which I had tested privately. Does this mean that I do not have PA?

B12 -139 pmol/L (25.1. -165 pmol/L)

Intrinsic factor - negative

I have been suffering with many symptoms but these maybe attributed to hypothyroidism or another endocrine disease so I am trying to exclude PA. my symptoms are numerous but include constant pins and needles/neuropathy, extreme tiredness, sudden urge to fall asleep, head pressure.

Many thanks

A negative intrinsic factor resukt does not rule out PA. Your b12 results do seem well in range.

Was your folate checked as usually done at the ssne time as B12.

Full iron including ferritin.

Vit D

A full blood count at your gps?

The symptoms are familiar. Trouble is they do cross over with other things.

Your gp should rule other things out.

Refer if necessary to a neurologist.

Functional b12 exists

Hope yiu get some answers

Thanks- I have had a full blood test including folate by GP all ok as is my Vit D which i supplement regularly. So maybe not B12 deficit or PA

Your results would imply that you aren't B12 deficient.

The test for PA as a cause of a B12 deficiency is an IFAB test but it isn't very sensitive so a negative doesn't rule out PA as the cause.PA is an auto-immune disorder that results in B12 deficiency. There are other things, including slow gut transit as a result of hypothyoridism that can affect B12 absorption.

Thats an interesting point about slow gut as I do have a problem with this as I am hypothyroid.
