My mom has Parkinson’s (since 2016). Neuro tested B12 in 2018. It was 847. Her folate was greater than 24.
In December 2020 my mom got covid followed by multiple UTIs and strep throat. She was on antibiotics from December to April (on and off). During this time she developed ongoing fatigue and psychiatric symptoms (increased anxiety, depression, memory issues).
I asked new neuro to do bloodwork. Her B12 is now 361 and her folate is 7.5.
Neuro ordered one B12 injection a week for 4 weeks then i s shot per month after that.
Her PT, therapist, and caregiver have all seen improvements after her first two shots. For example, she was happier, less anxious, more with it, etc). I should also mention she had horrible drenching night sweats. These have also gone away.
Last week she got her third shot and she did not continue to show improvement. In fact I am seeing symptoms I have not seen for over 2 months like insomnia.
Is this normal - ups and downs once starting treatment with injections?
Thanks,
Jennifer
