Hello Everyone

I hope you all are having a wonderful day and feeling well. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful information and advice given. This is not an easy journey to make on your own and this forum helps in so many ways.

I have a new, odd symptom and I am wondering if anyone has experienced this. The muscles in my shoulders, chest, neck, back, arms all tense up very badly. It almost feels like I am stuffed with lead. It gives me terrible chest pains and my neck/throats gets so stiff and strange feeling that it makes me feel like i can’t breath or swallow correctly. My necks Adam’s apple area will feel large and hard. It’s like a terrible pressure like feeling. It comes and goes and does not last very long but it’s very strange and I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I mentioned to to my doc yesterday (worst appointment of my life) and she didn’t seem to think it was anything. I know I have read dozens of your posts expressing how the medical community has failed you. I guess I had to learn it the hard way and see it for myself. I left the doctors office yesterday and swore I would never see a medical physican ever again. In all I was told to go to Mayo Clinic and that no one in the hospital system I am currently working with could help me. I tested negative for IFA but have been told I probably still have PA. I get 2 shots per month but it’s is far from enough. I have been receiving injections since July with a B12 level of 146. Looking back I think I have been low B12 for years and my body finally just gave up. My mom has also found out she is low B12 (170). The physician made me feel down right stupid for even suggesting more injections. She was AWFUL beyond words. I am going to seek injections on my own. One per week to start. Even though my blood levels are sky high this should be safe to do right? Any suggestions on taking extra folate as well? Folate levels always come back high end of normal range.

Thank you thank you thank you, from the bottom of my tired heart, thank you

If your folate levels are high then there's no need to take any more than you're already doing.

Hi,

I hope you get the opportunity to go to Mayo Clinic.

They have published some good articles on B12 deficiency.

B12 article from Mayo Clinic

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Table 1 in above article is about frequent misconceptions about B12 deficiency.

Article suggests ....

1) No proof that oral b12 is as good at treating B12 deficiency as B12 injections

2) Many current tests eg serum b12, active B12, MMA, Homocysteine, are not totally effective as diagnostic tests for B12 deficiency.

3) Successful treatment should not be stopped

I wondered if you had had your iron levels tested recently?

"My mom has also found out she is low B12 (170)"

I'm sorry to read that your mum is also having B12 issues.

Has she been tested for PA and Coeliac (Celiac in US) disease?

It might be that the cause of her B12 deficiency could give clues as to what is causing yours.

PA and Coeliac disease can run in families.

Just wondered if the area you are concerned about may be indicating a thyroid problem ?

Might at least be worth getting this checked and ruled out.

I saw your comment of your levels being sky high. At 146, that is not high. I’m in Seattle and my doc finally told me after doing whatever I want with B-12 dosing frequency and type that she would prefer for me to see a naturopath because she just doesn’t know the area well enough and freaks out when she sees high levels (mine is over 2000!). Take your docs advice and go to Mayo if you can or a naturopath that knows this area well.

Thank you for the reply. Mine were 147 in July but well over 1500 now. I’m going to try a functional medicine dr first and see where that gets me.

Hi, Sorry to hear you're going through this.

It's wise to have a check up with your doctor, but have a look on the internet at "Nutcracker / Jackhammer Oesophagus ".

This is basically spasms of the oesophagus which cause pain from the throat area, down the oesophagus to the upper chest area.

It's common in women aged over 50 and often associated with gastric reflux problems.

But as I said, if you're concerned, especially with chest pain, consult your GP.

Hope you get to the bottom of it soon, best wishes. x

I'm very interested in your symptoms regarding neck and chest. They correspond remarkably to my own which started with like a clear fluid sinus blockage/headache some time after initial B12 diagnosis. .GP medication for sinusitis resulted in it drying up but the aches and pains remained, and its like they advanced from sinus downward through neck including adams apple to chest (causing coughing) and shoulders. The GP checked my under chin glands and said there was no enlargement Ive had 6 loading B12, then two 3-monthly, then persuaded GP to give me three shots a couple of weeks ago. The three shotsvery disappointingly havent really helped the situation (I got one symptom free day after the second shot). Im also on medication for Afib, and those have some nasty side affects, its hard to tell which is which.

Thank you so much for your reply. It’s always nice to know someone is experiencing something similar. I’m curious, does this happen to you all day? I wake up in the mornings and I feel fine and as the day progresses it gets worse. Usually starts happening around 10. It’s really the oddest sensation.

Yes. similar, perhaps not there briefly on awakening but soon comes in but can vary during day and day to day Today right side is alot better. today. It does feel like muscle tension but I've not found a way to solve it yet.

Hears some news, I attended as normal my on-line exercise class today and came away with all neck pains gone. They have come back 5 hours later but not so bad. I'm beginning to believe it is more a physical problem than an illness (or effect of B12 deficiency) and I'm going to find some specific neck exercises to do, or it could be my pillow.

Your symptoms of dysphasia and globular sensation eith sound in your neck and shoulders is suggestive of LPR. I have these symptoms too. It’s due to pepsin leaking into the oesophagus. I’m about to be tested for it to confirm.
