Has anyone found out they are B12 deficient due to H. pylori infection? It’s something I have been reading about and am going to get tested for. Wondering how strong of a connection there might be.

H. pylori ?
i haven’t any personal experience , but reading posts on this forum , it’s clear that H.Pylori infection can cause B12 deficiency , and must be eradicated with specific anti-biotic treatment for the B12 deficiency to be rectified . The H.Pylori causes gastritis which affects the function of the parietal cells in the stomach , These cells produce the Intrinsic Factor and stomach acid which are both essential for the absorption process of Vitamin B 12, Stomach acid is also needed for the breakdown and absorption of other vitamins and minerals from our food .
i have learned so much from just reading posts on this marvellous forum .
Yes , get tested ASAP , if you have any worries regarding H.Pylori infection .
Best wishes .
Helicobacter pylori infection can definitely cause a B12 deficiency. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/108...
A small study -but worth noting that eradication of helicobacter pylori in those with B12 deficiency only resulted in raised serum B12 in 40% - so not complete answer for all.
Long-term regular use of PPIs (eg Omeprazole) used to treat H. pylori can also cause B12 deficiency.
Still good to get tested for it.
