Why is this? Sleep related.

Since starting my three loading doses in September my biggest problem has been insomnia and it has been a real struggle. I'm now waiting for the three monthly maintenance dose at the end of January and in sheer desperation I started taking oral B 12 supplements ten days ago. To my astonishment my sleep improved straight away and up until last night things have been so much better. Last night however I seemed to be back to square one, waking up every hour and not sleeping at all from 4.00 am. I have been taking 1000 ug in the morning and again at bedtime and because I tested positive for intrinsic factor antibodies I don't know what I expected so was very happy to be sleeping better. I have read that some of the oral B 12 still gets used so maybe that's what was happening.

As I still have a month to go before the next injection, would a higher oral dose be a good idea? I understand overdosing is not possible. Very grateful for the information and help given by members here up to now. I've learned a lot but still have a long way to go !!!!

If you have pA usually only b12 injections do the job. Some say you csn passively absorb some of a tablet from a 1000mcg dose. Certainly worth a try. Some find this helpful between injections.

Infact it was suggested and reserch is being done on this.

3 monthly is not enough for alot of people.

Ask for 2 monthly if struggling.

Deoendingbon symptoms the loading doses can continue for longer

Also check your vit d, folate , iron and magnesium on your nest blood test

Thank you Nackapan. Sometimes it seems to be trial and error before we get anywhere but the information here is superb and has helped greatly. I shall check bloods at the next testing.

Regarding not sleeping well last night in comparison to other nights....

Am saying this as a UK person who lives in India. Indian wisdom says that it's quite usual to not sleep much in the three days around full moon (day before, full moon day and day after). Same around the new moon (in this case, the two days before and new moon day itself).

If you've been sleeping well recently, but not last night, then the effect of the full moon may be the reason. :-) So given the oral supplements have been helping up til now, it may not be that they are suddenly not working.

Thank you Velliangiriblue. I hadn't thought of this as a possible problem and I have to say it doesn't seem to have affected me in the past, but who knows! Has it ever affected you?

Yeah, I often notice a difference on those nights and notice that when friends complain of not sleeping well is usually that time. So may be something to it! :-)

So, last night at bedtime I took an extra 500 ug and slept much better. I'm guessing that I shall have to supplement between maintenance doses for a while. Definitely also an option to ask about doses closer together.
