Hi everyone,

I have just recently been supplementing with B12. Started with oral VitB Complex with a small 200 mcg of cyanoCabalamin. The was switched to Injections of Vit B Complex with 1000mcg per dose. But I only had 3 doses in 5 days and the doc says we will see again in 1 month. First...my anxiety symptoms are through the roof and the neurological symptoms that were a bit alleviated the day after the injections are back. I’m looking into high dose MethelCobalamin to help intil I get to see the doc. I also want to get levels checked because no testing was done prior. Anyone go thru a similar situation? Thanks. James.

where are you based -

different countries have different protocols ... and use different forms of B12

In the UK protocol is

no- neurological symptoms: 3xweekly or 2 weeks followed by 3 monthly maintenance

neurological symptoms: 3xweekly until symptoms stop improving followed by 2 monthly maintenance

not to sure what the protocols would be in Canada - though injectable B12 is OTC in Canada. There have been large scale studies in Canada on using large dose oral and seems to be moving in that direction there - many people do find it works and is preferable to regular maintenance injections but there are significant people in the studies who preferred injections.

I'm afraid I really can't tell you what the protocols would be in Mx (Mexico?)

Hi vision2reality It is not uncommon for some symptoms to appear to get worse before they get better as the B12 you are supplementing starts repairing the damage done to your nervous system and your brain starts getting multiple messages from part of the body it had "forgotten about" or lost contact with.

I sometimes liken it to a badly tuned radio on which you have turned the volume up high trying to catch the programme you want when all of a sudden the signal comes in loud and clear and the blast nearly deafens you.

A lot will depend on the severity and longevity of your B12 deficiency as to how long before there is no further improvement or recovery. Some symptoms will "disappear" quite quickly whereas others may take months or even years. There is no set timescale as we are all different.

If you can get to see a doctor please also ask him/her to check your Folate level as this and B12 help your iron to make red blood cells and to function properly.

Sadly any serum B12 test result will be "skewed" by the supplements so you will need to tell your doctor what you have been doing

I am not a medically trained person but I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.

I wish you well

.

Thanks for the great info. The doc here in Mexico was telling me that they mostly treat B12 deficient patients based on symptoms because many tests are expensive and not always very dependable. Ive picked up 2500mcg sublingual losanges of Methylcobalamin (the natural form most easily assimilated). The type I had been injected with is not very assimilated (20%) vers 70% for the Methylcobalamin. And my injections were B12 Complex that shot my anxiety thru the roof. Worst I’d had in yrs.

I went thru the same anxiety. Have the B12 checked or changed I started buying from VitaminQuick.com and rotating half cc daily between Bcomplex and B12. No anxiety at all

If you are already having symptoms, there will be slow healing but steady. It can't hurt to take sublingual but you need to tell your doctor. 3 shots of B12 might get your levels up to normal, but they may go right back down again if you have no intrinsic factor or if you are a vegan. I was so near death when they finally figured out what was wrong with me (no detectable b12 in blood test) More symptoms than we will discuss here, but once I knew the injections (the rest of my life) would save my life. I didn't want to reduce the frequency but got used to it. Take care because Dr's have used B12 as a placebo for so long, some of them don't take it seriously. B12 does nothing for those who don't need it but is a life saver for those who do.

I have had symptoms for quite a long time. Presently I am doing high dose sublingual and it is quite good. Best day in a very long time.
