Who told you to inject daily? Normal starting injections start with every other day. The recommended dose if you do have any nerve problems caused by pernicious anaemia is initially an injection every other day until there is no further improvement in your symptoms, then one injection every two months. There is a reason for that regime. The surplus of the liquid B12 when not directly used , is stored in your liver. So you really don’t want to overburden your liver. The B12 injections are in itself not dangerous to take on a regular basis but why not take your time with them to see what each of these injections do to your body. Keep a diary . Also when you inject that often your B9/11 gets depleted and need to be topped up and you need magnesium , potassium and the other vitamins B ‘s with eating a decent healthy diet or taking safe working supplements ( do your research) to make sure the whole thing works in tandem and giving you the result your are aiming for. Vitamin B12 injections on its own are not going to give you long term benefits if you do not keep an eye on the rest.

If you have Pernicious Anemia, you will have low or no Stomach acid ( Hypochlorhydria/ Achlorhydria. This can cause awful stomach pains because low stomach acid allows bad bacteria to thrive in your stomach and this upsets your stomach flora . This can also cause diarrhoea or constipation , bloating etc . I helped my stomach by taking a probiotic called Symprove for several weeks , and it disappeared . Some people take acidic drinks with meals . Like lime juice or diluted organic cider vinegar with mother . Best wishes .

There are actually several different protocols. I loaded for 3 weeks as I was still having symptoms and now I’m injecting three times a week and will see how I feel in a few weeks when I back down to twice. I thought the ear clogging was gone but I’ve had it the past two days.

Milley2, suggest you consult GP regarding constipation and severe diarrheoa.I can't see how a B12 injection would be the cause, even if done into the fat on the stomache - this is a long way from the gut and is a way of getting B12 in to your body without using the gut.

If you aren't noticing any benefit in terms of relief of B12 symptoms then there isn't any point in injecting as frequently as you are as the lack of relief implies that B12 deficiency isn't the cause and there are other things going on.

I think I left less than 24 hours between inj dud wed am Thursday lunch then Thursday eve early hours so less than 24 hours I think may be it was to soon ? I was ok after I just had belly pains 30 mins after and out flew the poo so to speak then I was ok

The loose bowels had pinkish tinge sorry info so it looked like b12 mixed in

I think less frequent

One or twice a week

Milley2 profile image
Milley2 in reply to Gambit62

All other scans tummy ok Tests ok

No celiac neg

Intrinsic negative

P cell neg

I thought constipation though was a symtom of b12 def My Gp stopped my b12 so I hadn’t had for some time which I then noticed bowel changed since b12 this week my ears hiss is less today so that’s 3 days after first b12 inj

I think I will do weekly or twice a week rather than daily or alt

I think b12 needs time to work it’s way through and heal without over board

I think the 3rd b12 was the problem it was less than 24 hours as I got desparate as to nit having so long

The tummy feels ful of anxiety to

Jittery

Which was not there when I was having b12 regular

I listened to Gp whi said I was ok niw

My level was 124 this July so early days

I do nit think I’m recovered

I think I still need to build levels up

Ear hiss is better today nit 100%

But better than last week

It’s as if you can feel the b12 cells at work ?

If that makes sense

So I need to continue

All other tests tummy are ok

whilst B12 deficiency is a potential cause of some bowl disorders it is far from being the only one. If you are suffering from severe diarrhoea you need to see a doctor. You should also take plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration

I see what your saying Is there ever a Colbert poisoning from Colbert in the b12 injection as frequent doses ?

Gambit62 profile image
Gambit62Administrator in reply to Milley2

No B12 does not cause cobalt poisoning. The cobalt in cobalamin is not free to react with other compounds, and the amounts are extremely small anyway.

I wouldn’t like tummy injections - we use thigh injections. A bout of loose bowels, or even diarrhoea, a day or two later, is the side effect that tells us that the injection has taken.

When you start on B12, all sorts of bodily functions that had been damped right down start coming back to life, and send messages to the brain that it doesn’t quite know what to do with, and so you experience the pain reaction to them, initially. These will quieten down over a few weeks, but B12 can make you feel worse at first; but stick with it, and the benefits will come through.

NB: we wish ‘stored in the liver’ were true, or at least that even if it is, it could be released from there as effectively useful. That’s not been our experience.

Yes I do it regularly. But keep at least 1-3 days in between to mark down the effects. My neurologist was trained in Sweden and she had a complete different loading regime in my case. It went on for month not weeks! However always with 1 in the beginning to 2-3 days in between. Then was told to manage myself according my neurological symptoms, on medical record... for life, 1 monthly injection or more when required!

Milley2 profile image
Milley2 in reply to ACritical

Ok so What regime now for you ? How long have you injected for ? What neuro issues did or do you have now x

We are all different, I can walk again without an aid. My migraines are almost nonexistent, an odd one to remind me I do have an issue going on in my body. Those days are now doable without having to be lying down in a dark room with the help of only paracetamol/ ibuprofen. My tinnitus has not been resolved whatsoever. Some day less loud. I have had this since my early thirties when no one told me about Vitamin deficiencies, which I clearly had as was given vitamin injections from time to time . I learned to ignore the tinnitus noice, some days I am beter at it then others . I do know when to inject or take other vitamin supplements for a variety of reasons as for instance when’s migraine headache develops or I get tiredness and a withdrawal feelings setting in . Not wanting to read as too difficult to comprehend what I am reading. Becoming tetchy with myself and dear ones. Not being able to get up the stairs etc. Vitamin D is the culprit on many occasions but usually after Hydroxocobalamin injection and accompanying B vitamins, magnesium etc also vitamin D supplement I get my balance corrected and I feel fine again for awhile. It’s an ongoing issue. However manageable in my case. I try to get back to injections once a month, but that hasn’t happened so far. Now in winter month back to 1 every 7/10 days.

I was on 1 injection every other day for about a month , then to 2 a week for another month then to 1 a week for quite a while then down to 1 in every 2 weeks for awhile and around 6 month , I was getting feeling back in my legs, I was at 1 monthly stayed that way for years. Then I felt my symptoms slowly coming back and started to take them closer together. In the end I started the loading doses all over again and I am now at 1 a fortnight. After latest blood-test, vitamin D again far too low , now on monthly ampoules to try to correct this. I wonder what are your neurological symptoms, problems with your metabolism can be caused by a lot of things. Those need closer scrutiny by your GP. Perhaps seeing a specialist specifically focused on vitamins and minerals will be able to shine some light on your problem. You are what you eat!!! Really! And not all so called ‘ healthy ‘ foods are good for you, as I found out. But again you need to find out what triggers your symptoms, that’s different for any of us. It takes a lot of time and effort ( which in my case I was lacking as result of vitamin deficiency of a few and over sensitivity to others)

So you are right to research 🧐 but many areas of medicine are best left to those who have studied and are specialist in that. GP aren’t always willing to go that route, you have to find these specialists ( they are used in professional sports), Orthomolecular Therapist, yourself and pay privately in many cases. In Europa I have found out, it’s more easier to be referred to one. It can be part of your health insurance if you choose to add it as an extra.
