Hi I am new.

I feel very low and stressed out at the moment. I haven’t got any motivation to work or even manage my health. I had low B12 which has been successfully managed with injections. The level is currently 1198 pg/L (190 - 900) but I have basically lost the will to fight for myself anymore. I keep crying in my room on and off, at the thought of how sick I feel. The only people that understand are my husband and in-laws. That’s it.

I am close to giving up - coming here is my last resort.

My symptoms are -

Itching on face

Hair loss

Feeling cold

Depression

Agoraphobia

Dark rings around eyes

Irregular periods

Dry skin

Adult acne

Fatigue

Thank you for reading.

Om sorry you feel so low. How long have you been b12 deficient or diagnosed with PA.

Have you had other tests too?

Folate levels /iron

Ferritin

vitsmin d

Thyroid checked

If it very early days it will improve .

It does take time

Some like myself were initially bedbound at the start.

So you need to pace .

Also if possible eat very well and stay hydrated.

If you feeling depressed are you getting help or treatment from your G.p

Im glad you have good understanding from your husband and relatives

Its extra hard at present to get access to services.

Bot consults over the phone and face ti face are happening.

Blood tests are happening.

Referral s are being made if urgent.

I wish you well and a way to cope.

Folate was 4.25 ug/L (2.50 - 19.50)

vitamin D was 51 nmol/L (50 - 75 suboptimal) and I take 800IU on prescription,

ferritin 41 ug/L (15 - 150)

Thyroid - *TSH 5.2 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.20) and free T4 15 pmol/L (12.0 - 22.0) free T3 3.2 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) first time it’s ever been checked

I would ask the thyroid forum about your results. Good the doctor looking for more reasons.

Oh, and no improvements on your b12 regime? Let's hope your doctor has now realised about your thyroid.

You will get good advice I'm sure.

All I would add is if you look at Grassroots it says alot about vit D. Also k2 mark 7 some take with it . If you read up it explains

Ferritin I've been told by a doctor that levels below 50 can cause symptoms . Your ferritin is well in range but worth a discussion with Gp. Also ask if it's been done before to see if its dropped.

Remember numbers as in b12 level means nothing once on I jections. How often are you having them? Testing is not needed if having regular injections

Also its recommended at your age to have 400mcg folic acid daily.

I have the injections every 3 months. Yes my ferritin was in the 100s before but has dropped a lot now.

I will look at the grassroots and getting some folic acid.

Thanks

Ask the GP to try you on injections every two months.

They might say that they are not allowed to. Ask them to check in the BNF (British National Formulary) as the guidelines were changed a few years back to allow injections every 2 to 3 months.

800iu is very unlikely high enough dose vitamin D

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

Your high thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.
