B12 deficiency and menopause

I am currently three injections into the treatment for my B12 deficiency which has coincided with unexpected period pains and blood spotting. I am 57 and on HRT. Does anyone else have experience of this or is it more likely connected to other health issues I have?

Morning hebe I’d say b12 wouldn’t cause that it’s more likely a hrt issue so I’d have a chat with your gp as these things should always be investigated are you post meno, have you had no bleeds or spotting for 12 months and a day? If so get it checked with gp if not and you’ve had a bleed in last 12 months and a day your still peri so could just be your normal cycle it happens to some ladies they get so close to post meno then with just days to go they get a bleed then it has to start all over again,12 months and a day with no bleeds before you can say your post meno.if your worried chat to gp best of luck.x

Isn’t it a lovely cat? It was a default picture I didn’t choose. I’m more of a dog person and have two beautiful Belgian shepherds 😊

I was the same age as you when I started b12 injections . Menopause at 55yrs old ans I think contributed to low absorbtion that its known to do

When my Gp in her wisdom convinced me hrt patches would help my symptoms last April. I too had some period like pains an array of emotions bloating and all sorts in the space of 3 weeks. I tapered off a tearful wreck. Another Gp thoughf I was too old and my body had a shock with so much going on.

So I imagine the b12 has something to do with it as it's too much of a coincidence . Be interested what your doctors think .

Hi I do think b12 relates to hormones as I was menopausal early to mid 40s before being diagnosed with PA, but it turned out to be my body shutting down due to very low b12, and it went away and periods returned once I was properly treated. I’ve now been through proper menopause (age 51) and what a freedom! My iron levels are great. I self inject b12 weekly in between gp jab every 8 weeks.

@ Thrones, I had a skinny filthy hissy tatty cat break my cat flap and move in a couple of years ago, he’s now 8kg and vet said clearly a Maine Coon. I had to get new bigger cat flaps 😂 He looks a lot like your beautiful boy 💕

Early menopause can be a B12 deficiency thing - I've certainly seen it on lists, and been asked about menopause date by consultants. Also hair going grey early or falling out. Some have hair return after B12 replete- at it's original colour. Quite impressive.

What a truly strange condition this is.

I also had a stray cat - a half-wild tomcat that looked exactly like the cat in your picture, except his eyes were green. We called him Minky. He was stunningly handsome and I couldn't believe that anyone would abandon him. He gradually moved in after I treated his eye infection -and he ruled the neighbourhood imperiously for many, many years.
