I've been trying to get the district nurses back to do my 90 year old mums b12 injection.

They cancelled her by phone. The surgery were helpful when I explained she will be 91 when injection due and on her notes housebound with severe mobility problems. They were doing a new referral to get the district nurses back. The only service from nurses she has every 3 months.

The surgery have now said she has to go for a blood test to see what her b12 level is . And if okay she is to buy tablets if she wants them.

Do they not understand what mobility problems are?? Skip to the surgery and then pop to the shop!! She actually can hardly move at present with a wound from falling and bad back.

I find it cruel.

Alot of older people havent a rockvieller as a daughter to wade through the injustices

. She is the opposite to me passive and a yes person. Probably why I'm like I am. 😡

I feel the same about my dad - he’s 96 in a weeks time and everything has been stopped. Ok, I understand that they are trying to protect folk but to be denying proper treatment and support is unforgivable.

Wow a great age.

Sorry he too had no services.

It's quite absurd

Sorry Nackapan,

That is just ridiculous. Here’s hoping that the situation can be resolved quickly and good job with you batting her corner - so to speak. Let us know how things progress.

Thanks

This is so not fair Nackapan get onto your local mp and explain that your not well yourself and can’t keep fighting these battles the stress it’s putting you under is unforgivable and your poor mum,if she is as you say a yes person this must play havoc with her emotions, a lot of that generation were taught not to question authority or medics and to just think themselves lucky they had nhs so it must be awful difficult for her.

Try not to get too wound up and use every process you are able to use so you don't have to keep going through this it’s bloody shocking my heart goes out to you.xx

Thats that's the thing. Ive precious energy for myself.

Good idea about mp but at present cant do it.

Trying not to get wound up. Its difficult enough doing what I can for her. Have to prioritise and delegate where I can.

Help /cleaning was put into place when I was first ill to replace what I was doing. It doesnt seem enough now. I'm done at present with her surgery. A letter and thats it now. Why did they start b12 treatment with injections if they didnt intend them for life every 3 months . ??

Ivr got the 'means' so back to DIY. You are right those that lived before an NHS will accept anything especially from poor famililies as she was. Seen too much.

It was a wonderful thing.

She needs a proper wound dressing and her b12 injection. Dosent seem much to ask for.

Shes put plenty in 'the pot' Between them they put in 100 years of contributions from wages . (I know she gets a pension. )

Very sad.

Alot of the elderly if alone are suffering at present.

So sorry for you and your mum Nackapan I know what you mean it’s very draining even just thinking about how to challenge it I get that. Its like fbirder says frequently do one letter cc everyone in on it photocopy then post copies to gp mp practice manager etc,it’s a pain in the ass but such good advice.take care and make sure you get your rest too.xx

I am a Carer in the community and it disgusts me how the elderly people in the community are being treated(or not as it seem) during covid.ive phoned doctors to ask for home visits when they have been poorly and different symptoms getting worse to be told their ailments are not life threatening.how the heck do they know from a phone call??!!

in reply toMollieharry

Well done Mollieharry for everything you do for our elderly, these days it’s not just a job it’s a mission.xx

Glad you take your work so seriously. Very frustrating the care isnt continued when you need help .

Yes my mum is deaf. As many are. Telephone!! I've been trying to deal with a wound from a fall . Wont issue antibiotics over the phone. Wont visit to see wound . Dress it or do b12 injection. Cant get het to the surgery!! It's either Provide of virgin that won the contract for district nursing. Of courses at a cheaper cost that will cost lives ultimately. Keep up the good work.

Hey Nackapan. So sorry to read this. Just what you dont need! Would it be worth sending a letter to your practise manager and copying in your MP. Its outrageous. You are quite right -its not much to ask for.

The elderly lady over the road from me is 98 & her daughter cares for her. The nurse home visits to dress her wound.....seems to go with that age group. See no reason why they cant do this for ypur Mum.

As for the B12 jabs being changed to tablets.......where has this nonsense come from????!! Honestly if she has been put on b12 jabs because she cant absorb enough from her stomach why oh why would she be able to absorb b12 from tablets!! Frankly there is zero thinking behind this! Bonkers!! Like the madness of Trump going for a drive round whilst still highly infectious with Covid19 with no regard for anything or anybody except his ego.

Sending you the biggest of hugs xxx

Yrs thanks.

The wound was from a cut from a fall but as you say can easily go into a sore at that age .

Hassle and so unnecessary. She needs b12 injections otherwise why did they start them?? It's only been si ce I hot I'll I got her tested. I thought she getting dementia.

Her mind is so mush better on them. She at least could move on them around the house. Not a cure but s definite help.

Hope your tremors have decreased. Ladt time tou were splitting youf dose.

Yrs good advice from many to write.

Of courses no mean feat with my visual problems of closes up. The text disappears from the right and my heD sizzles like bacon. Cant use a la9too either. Will perhaps dictate a letter to my husband. Hrs full on at work but it will get done if not resolved. Tc

Its soooo unfair Nackapan. Am fuming for you. Your right no one cares anymore.....

The other week I tripped and fell with a jug of white spirit in my hand. The white spirit went all over my head and in both eyes. It hurt. I was terrified and chucked my self fully clothed in the shower forcing the shower head water to gush right into my eyes. When Id done I couldn't get anyone to see me doctors, walk in centre, out of hours doctor. Oh no they said you need a&e. Great. Sat in a&e for over two hours before triaged and the nurse was oblivious of the chemical burn to my eyes despite me telling reception on admission so panicked & irrigated my eyes. Sent me back into main waiting area saying I needed to be seen. 3 hrs later I went home as I need my meds. Saw Opthalmologist in morning who was horrified by their inaction. Said they should have been irrigating my eyes every 20mins and checking ph level. He told me they havent even made a record of your visit. He gave me drops & told me your actions with the shower saved your sight. I was lucky.

So I feel for you Nackapan I really do having to deal with them!! Soul destroying.

And Ive gone back up to full 1ml injections twice per day & added methylcolabamin drops as well. Dont know whats going on with me but I seem to need a lot of b12!! Its working again but for how long!!!! I dont understand it.

Oh dear god why do GP’s think our older generation are so dispensable! It’s beyond belief. The madness about it all is hospital doctors are still working, nurses still work, why are GP’s the golden ones to be protected from COVID-19 at the expense of people’s health! My daughter is an ED nurse and she said health issues are escalating and turning urgent because GP’s are refusing to see people. Can you ring the district nurses yourself and tell them you are having issues with the GP. It’s a constant battle. Good luck

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toParksy

I've done that . The district nurse I spoke to said mum agreed on the phone . Mum said she thought the yes was to b12 o jection. !!

I pointed out she is deaf and says yes to everything. Most numbers blocked.

I explained everything. She said they woukdnt be going out to her Hence back to Gp for re referral as was told by the staff there easier way as on her notes its stated housebound. (I didnt know that) I was really surprised by the nurses attitude and coldness.

wairting for a call back from Gp. If it happens. What a waste of time with all this admin. Rather than carry on the service once every 3 months.

Given it to someone else to take call. Headaches today and speaking on phone not possible today.

Really do not know what Gps are doing .

I think we shoujd all actually be informed on what is happening in the surgeries. Operations s are happening. Some hospital clinics open. This is a basic .

So angry on your, and your Mother’s behalf. It seems lately that all empathy and common sense has gone out of the window. I am sorry you have this extra burden on top of your own, and hope you get these idiots to see sense quickly. Take care of yourself too.

That's disgraceful !

I'm a former nurse too, but I'm sick fed up of medical staff pulling the "Covid Card" !

Yet it's amazing how services differ in various parts of the UK.

My 82 year old uncle in London broke his hip a few months ago and a physiotherapist came to his house SIX DAYS A WEEK initially, and has been attending regularly ever since.

So why not District Nurses ?

I really hope this awful situation is resolved soon, it's nothing less than negligence.

Very best wishes to you, your Mum and family xx

Thats amazing for your uncle!! Lovely to hear.

Nor sure what's going on with nurses. Two have left my surgery. And phlebotomist. My friend continues to work as a practice nurse in a mask all day.

I've also heard district nurses not going out to post operative patients. ,?? Being discharged very early. (Covid) My friend didnt even know what the things were attached to their parent. Had to chase for instructions and then got they got ill as catheter left in and back onto hospital. Communication seems to be at an all time low . Low staff numbers. Ect . But the admin mess unexcusable. Surely more time for admin with no face to face patients in the surgery??why o why try to stop b12 injections now . N9 time for what they call reviews when actually life time treatment. ??
