Do you still absorb B-12 if your can’t tolerate a certain type?

I am back to square one again after trying two types of B-12 after a few days I react quite badly .. the symptoms are lingering and I feel worse now than I did before I started taking any form of B-12 .

If I have an adverse reaction was I absorbing anything? I was taking sublingual drops.

I don’t think I have P.A. my deficiency was due to lack of nutrition after an allergic reaction left me with 3 foods - but I do think there is genetic mutations and methylation issues

Thanks

If you had an adverse reaction then you must have been absorbing something otherwise there would have been no reaction at all.

Dietary deficiency is outside the remit of this group.

To correct a dietary deficiency the usual treatment is 2 x 50mcg tablets - much less than you would need if trying to treat an absorption problem.

With allergies or histamine intolerance there would be an inflammatory element and so absorbtion may be an issue as well.

Slosh. if the reaction occurred post supplementation - as reported - then there must have been some absorption.

I also do not know the answer. I have histamine intolerance and react to vitamins - just tried sublingual drops again this morning and had such a reaction. My B12 levels are high on my blood tests - but I am having nerve damage in my one foot and my hands starting to go numb again.

Hey slosh ,

Sounds like we are in similar situations - have you tried Hydroxocobalamin ? I am going to try this today - I bought the seeking health version which is supposed to be well tolerated by anyone with gene mutations etc .. I am very dubious and going in small I just would love to find one I can tolerate

Have you been seen by a neurologist? There are lots of possible causes for your neuropathy, a B12 deficiency is just one. It would be good to have the other possibilities ruled out.

What are your folate levels like? A folate deficiency can cause the same neuropathy.

Thank you. Haven’t had folate checked recently.
