Recovering from Covid-19!

Whelp. As if the b12 deficiency wasn’t enough, my husband caught Covid at work and then I got it! After 2 weeks of hell (he ended up w/pneumonia and I ended up with tachycardia (rapid resting heartbeat) and breathing issues that have me on two inhalers - a steroid and rescue) I ended up in the ER yesterday with yet again, high heat rate and breathing issues. I’m still on the inhalers to manage - prob for a few weeks to a few months. Has anyone else had Covid? I asked about b12 depletion but then RT docs didn’t know any info. They said to check w/my Neuro and I will reach out to him this week. I am still doing injections every 2 weeks but I’ve been so sick that I can’t tell the difference between covid and possible b12 flares. Lord help us all. And get 2020 done with already!

I've not had Covid but if you're self injecting try doing more often for a while to see if it helps. I am asthmatic and before my severe b12 deficiency and PA was diagnosed my asthma was out of control, I was having to use my inhalers throughout the day as I could hardly get a breath. While you're recovering from Covid why not inject at least once a week or possibly twice, it will do no harm and could help with your breathing issues.

Really sorry to hear that .

No, haven't had it, but my sister got it very early on, and it scared me stiff that so little was known at that time: She was expecting to go back to work on day 7 as this was what the papers were saying - but was still unable to eat solid food or move from the sofa by day 10.

Advice from GP and from hospital was just keep taking Ibuprofen. These had become very difficult to obtain due to panic-buying.

She avoided hospital, but very worrying time.

With both of you ill and isolating , must be very difficult.

Think that Ibuprofen (if this is your treatment) more likely to affect B12 if anything, but check because I'm not sure.

I've been taking it for an abscess - haven't noticed a difference myself, although it is on the list of drugs that can affect B12.

B12 more likely to be of benefit to you than not. I think we would have heard by now if there was a reason not to take it if you have Covid. There are a lot of us on this grapevine !

I don't think that ibuprofen can affect B12 if you're injecting.

If you're not then it is one of the main causes of gastritis, when can reduce the amount of Intrinsic Factor produced and, hence, reduce absorption of B12.

One of the reasons I stick to paracetamol these days.

Thanks, good to know. Trying to reduce swelling and hold onto teeth a bit longer !

It was on a list I had -but no reasons given: drugs.com/drug-interactions.

It's not on the other list I have kept (University of Maryland Medical Centre).

When you said “hold onto teeth” - what does that mean? What is happening and is it from b12 def?

I have had ti rotate paracetamol and ibuprofen. Firstly fir chronic headaches and was told to stop paracetamol ad tiu can get rebound headaches. Then told to stop ibuprofen as Gu thought it causing g tint bleeds and may be a reason for dropping ferritin. Then tooth e reaction si needed alot if pain relief again. Last month only needed 7 days on pain relief and only one dose.

As long as you have ibuprofen with food or not on an empty stomach and not for too many days on the trot I think okay. I had a month off paracetamol 'to prove' not rebound headaches'codeine good but makes me dizzy not so bad with paracetamol but addictive.

Sometimes with nerve pain and teeth ibuprofen is the only thing that works . I've also taken both together as directed at times. So do not worry too much. No study has now said ibuprofen bad for covid now as long as I'm aware . Hopefully you won't need it longer than a few weeks. My b12 was working on alot of pain relief as far as I know.

Cant rewrite.

For Hopetob12better too!

Thanks, Nackapan. I found the same- only Ibuprofen helps for toothache and swollen gums.

Really don't worry- there is no link that I know of at all, other than this could be the way a "prone to infection, poor healing" issue manifests itself in me. I have occasional saliva duct/gland infections, gum swelling, loose teeth. Abscess right now, causing three loose teeth - trying not to see a dentist at the moment by taking Ibuprofen to reduce swelling. Sometimes works. That's all, okay ?

I'm seeing Oral Medicine consultant soon -hoping he can help me with this. He has helped in the past with other issues.

If losing teeth was a common symptom, you would have heard more about it by now on here. And as far as I can tell, it's just me and Nackapan having problems lately !

No-one gets all of the possible B12 deficiency symptoms.

I never get headaches for example -only when on antibiotics. For many people here, this is a common symptom.

Get yourself better from Covid, keep trying to control the symptoms you have - and don't worry about your teeth !
