Hi there.

Did your GP do these bloods tests for you?

I have heard of most of them but I was wondering what TgAB and TPOAB We’re?

Did you have to ask for the active B12 as opposed to the serum B12?

Thanks regards Linda

Thyroglobulin antibodies and thyroperoxidase antibodies. Both looking for signs of an autoimmune thyroid disorder. Best ask about them in the Thyroid Uk group.

I don't bother asking for the active B12 because my levels will be above the top of the range either way.

The active B12 test has advantages in situations.

1. If you are close to the bottom of the range for the serum test then the Active test, being more accurate and precise is likely to give you a better idea as to whether you are deficient or not.

2. Very rarely people have a very small amount of active B12 (it's normally about 20% of the total). An Active test will show a deficiency where a serum test will not.
