B12 delayed by gp

I’m having an injection at surgery today ( have received two texts reminding me if want to cancel and a survey to fill in incase I have symptoms of covid) it has only been 11 weeks and 1 day since last one . My question is , has anyone who previously managed very well on 3 monthly found they’ve then struggled when an injection has been delayed ? I waited 17 weeks for my one prior to this and only got it when I experienced vertigo and sickness, so was agreed . Last week I was already experiencing dizziness, tiredness and imbalance and so I’ve begged for it early . I’m thinking it’s because I went so long last time I needed more this time and quicker so hoping that by having a bit early might put me a bit more level ?????? I’m really hoping that’s all it is and will be rectified with this jab as chances of get a blood test or jab early next time Zero !!! Was told this was a one off early bird !!! What does anyone think ? Sorry for long post but am anxious as I’ve always managed great and only working 3 days a week at moment and worry what’ll happen if have to go back full time soon .

You should be able to get your I jection 2 -3 months. As you di well normally on your regime do not allow them to delay it.

I am supposed to have mine every ten weeks my last one was in February so I have not been able to get mine due to lockdown. I have been told that I will be a priority for it because it is not down to my diet. I am so tired that I want to just sleep all day long and my hands and feet are losing the feeling because of the nerve damage being done with not having it and if they just put a package together for me I can do it at home as my carer is a fully trained nurse who wanted to take a less stressful job and became a P.A for me but we are even both with the very same GP who knows that she is fully trained to do injections because he was proved that she was able to do them as she has a injection every day for her diabetes LoL. But I'm not going to worry about it at all because I have already tried to get the help I need from them and I have even tried OTC B12 tablets but they are too weak I just thought I'd rather have something rather than nothing at all to get me by for now I would definitely contact your GP with you concerns about symptoms even if like myself they suggest that to bridge the gap for a short time get some OTC.

Best regards

Hi,

If you're in UK, my understanding is that with neuro symptoms such as dizziness and vertigo/balance issues you should be having injections every 2 months not every 3 months.

Might be worth talking to MP or devolved representative if you struggle to get recommended level of treatment.

I wrote very detailed replies on another forum thread with links to B12 deficiency symptoms lists, causes of b12 deficiency, info about tests for PA, list of B12 books, list of B12 websites, more UK B12 documents, letters to GP about B12 deficiency and other B12 info including hints on dealing with unhelpful GPs, which you might find helpful.

I left a detailed reply about impact of pandemic on B12 treatment in UK in next link.

Some forum members resort to self injection when they cannot manage on what GP gives them. Personally I feel this is a last resort but sadly unavoidable for some especially with so many on the forum reporting problems getting treatment during pandemic.

I am not medically trained.

Thank you , I was one of the few lucky ones who experienced no real problems on 3 monthly I just wish I hadn’t left it when they told me in March I couldn’t have it and then waited another 4 weeks for the old demons to resurface before getting it . Hoping by having injection today again I’ll be back on an even keel . Will definitely have to speak to gp if covid continues to hinder my receiving treatment. Some nurses at my practice are very helpful others don’t seem to give a toss .
