Hi FlorencePocket-Owl you may just have caught a small blood vessel or it may even be a bit of B12 leaking back. Don't be overly concerned - it happens.

You did the right thing by applying pressure.

I wish you well

Yes it's happened when the nurse has done it. Just apply pressure as you did it should stop quite soon.

Yes , it’s happened to me . I don’t know what I hit , but a great spurt of blood shot out and frightened me . Just applied pressure with the swab for a minute , and all was well .

Hah- me, too, wedgewood: it only ever happened the once but it was early on - and right at the point where I was demonstrating self-injection to my partner for the first time.

Quite dramatic but short-lived.

Rarely bleed at all now, probably because if I feel any pain or resistance, I withdraw needle and find myself another site.

Yes, this happened to me after self-injecting without any problems for nearly two years. I admit I frightened myself quite badly and it’s taken quite a few injections to get my confidence back but I’m there now. As others have said, I applied pressure at the time, but I still had a colourful bruise. It’s reassuring to know from others on the forum that it can happen. Take care and keep well

Yes me too - and I always felt better afterwards, too.

Always felt like I had too much blood and they were doing me a favour !

I just remembered something funny about being a "bleeder" :

About 15 years ago, I had to have an operation to pin my arm into it's socket, which we were told would take around 1 1/2 hrs, and ended up taking 3 1/2 hrs instead.

When asked why it took so long, partner was told "Well, she did bleed quite a bit" - !
