GP letter no b12 injections

My GP surgery sent a letter stating NO b12 injections. Quoting BSH guidance stating liver stores last one year and those who are symptomatic oral b12 can be offered as an alternative because there will be sufficient absorption!!! Incorrect!!

What experiencies have you all had?

Hi,

"Quoting BSH guidance stating liver stores last one year "

I think your GP surgery are using out of date BSH guidance.

See latest PAS news item about latest BSH guidance for use during pandemic and read the comments underneath article if you have time.

You could write a letter to GP , copied to practice manager and attaching a copy of latest BSH guidance.

I wrote a detailed response about this issue on Spirit26 's recent post (two below yours).

It has info I think you'll find useful and suggestions on how to cope with unhelpful GPs.

Write back to the GP with a copy of the most recent BSH guidelines - b-s-h.org.uk/media/18259/bs...

Explain that the original guidelines were written by the tea boy and that the latest ones are actually guided by the science.

What amazed me about the initial guidance , was that it was “ guidance from EUROPE to prescribe oral 1000mcg B12 oral tablets “ That is truly unbelievable !

Like I said - written by the tea boy.

Sorry to hear that.

That is very selective of the BSH guidelines.

What about it being a lifelong illness, and needing INJECTIONS for life. Did they miss that bit out..

Hope you get them reinstated.

I have just received a letter from my GP surgery this morning (Fife, Scotland), saying that I will not be getting my quarterly B12 injection, which is due at the end of this month. It says missing one or two injections will not badly affect my B12 stores in the liver.

I have had Pernicious Anaemia for 34 years..and have never ever missed an injection.

Am being offered an oral 1000 mcg daily tablet, but I thought PA sufferers can’t absorb it through the stomach?

I was extremely ill when I was first diagnosed..would hate to go back to that condition.

Very disappointed ☹️
