Weight loss help

Hi, I am new to having pernicious anemia. I have been trying a diet of red meats, milk, and breakfast cereal( I can’t eat fish due to an allergic reaction). I can’t go on a diet like my mother who only drinks diet soda and eats one full meal. An my weight gain increases ten fold when I drink 2% milk. I used to be able to only eat a banana for breakfast but having cereal and milk. Which helps me a lot mentally just not physically. My mother has suggested skim milk, but I don’t know if that give me the nutrients I need. I was really loosing weight when I didn’t drink milk at all, but that is how I think my anemia got triggered (it also inherited). What would you suggest skim milk, no milk at all, a different kind of milk and any weight loss exercises for people that are anemic? ( I have two B-12 and D, I don’t want to be dizzy all day! an be stuck in bed due to the dizziness)

My PA is treated by supplements. An yes I have t my thyroid medicine, but it is making me break out in hives. My doctor gave me two meds np thyroid which is not fda approved and iodine. I had to stop taking the np thyroid.

Good morning. You could try lactose free milk, arla is a very good brand, you can get full fat skimmed and semi skimmed. You would probably feel better tummy wise on this, not so bloated that could be why you think your gaining weight as dairy milk can be very bloating.

You may also find that cutting out or reducing your gluten intake will be beneficial for your overall health.

If you can get copies of your blood results and post here with ranges then the members will be able to give you good advice on how to address any deficiencies you have.

Good luck x

Excellent Helvella thanks so much for that post now corrected x

As far as weight loss is concerned it doesn’t really matter what type of milk. It all comes down to calories in vs calories out.

If you consume more calories than you burn you’ll put on weight. If you burn off more calories than you eat you’ll lose weight.

Maybe a totally fresh approach is needed? Decide on the calories you’re going to have then decide what food you can have within that calorie allowance. I’d suggest a balanced diet with including lots of fruit and veg.

Statistics show that you’re more likely to be successful if you join a weight loss group rather than going it alone.

If you’re feeling dizzy and unable to get out of bed I wonder if your anaemias are being adequately treated?

Good luck!
