For some they are. For many they aren't It all depends on the cause of your deficiency.
If your doctor has told you that you must switch to pills get a telephone appointment to discuss it. Tell them you have read the new guidelines from the British Society of Haematologists for B12 deficient patients during the covid-19 epidemic. pernicious-anaemia-society....
Say that you are worried about irreversible nerve damage if they stop your injections.
If they force you to switch to tablets then keep an eye on your symptoms. As soon as you get any numbness/tingling in your hands or feet get another telephone appointment.
No, there will not be any side-effects you don't get from injections.
Thankyou for that waiting for tabs. to be delivered not sure of the name of them, apparently they are widely used abroad, but will try and find information on there effectiveness as and when I receive them.
Don't wait if you feel any neurological symptoms as fbirder said.
I was made unnecessarily ill by being given tablets instead of injections a few years ago. My surgery tried it on with a number of their patients and by chance I found out later that only 1 person out of 115 patients was OK to remain on the tablets leaving 114 of us months getting back to where we had been.

Hi pretty1woman. As already said, it does depend on what kind of B12 deficiency you have. If it is Pernicious Anaemia tablets are unlikely to help- much as your stomach does not absorb oral B12. Tablets are fine for low B`12, but for Pernicious Anaemia you need injections. Do try to get all the information you can about your condition and then you will know what to do. Good luck.
