Hi,

See this blog post from B12 Deficiency Info website about incontinence.

b12deficiency.info/blog/202...

Do you think you are getting enough B12?

I think bladder and bowel incontinence are mentioned in the books below.

B12 books I found useful

"What You Need to Know About Pernicious Anaemia and B12 Deficiency" by Martyn Hooper

Martyn Hooper is the chair of PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society). Book does not show updated BNF info.

"Living with Pernicious Anaemia and Vitamin B12 Deficiency" by Martyn Hooper

Has several case studies.

"Could it Be B12?: An Epidemic of Misdiagnoses" by Sally Pacholok and JJ. Stuart (USA authors)

Very comprehensive with lots of case studies.

PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society)

Based in Wales, UK. Has members in other countries.

There is a helpline number that PAS members can ring.

I’m so glad that you are not medically trained . Your advice on P.A. is all the better for that . We have all sought help and advice from the medically trained for P.A., and where did it get us.? ......... Thank you for your good advice.

Exactly that, wedgewood .

Was going to write the same thing just a day or two ago, but couldn't word it satisfactorily. Advice you can trust to be fact-based, considerate and worth doing the link homework ? Priceless !

Thanks, Sleepybunny .

Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to bowel and bladder incontinence. It can affect any nerves in your body . All nerves need a myelin sheath , B12 is essential for that sheath . That’s why there are so many different symptoms .Individually we just get a selection .Maybe depends on genes which symptoms we get — who knows ?

I do and it is so random. If I keep to my every other day injection it seems to keep it in check, otherwise it is awful. I've always exercised, gym, Pilates and pelvic floor but it just happens if B12 gets low. Of course doc doesn t want to believe that!

Thank you for your reply, happy to hear injections help you. But sorry your doctor doesn't want to believe that. I had issues with my doctor as well thinking that I'm crazy. So I'm excited I have a new doctor I will be seeing next Monday.

I do. No rhyme or reason. Not incontinence but just a horrible constant nagging feeling that I haven't completely emptied my bladder even if I have I hate it as it is constantly on your mind that you need to go even if you don't. It's very draining

Thank you for your reply, sometimes I can't tell when I have to go unless my side starts to hurt, then I go and I feel relieved of the slight pain. Sometimes I wake up by using the bathroom on myself, and have to run to the bathroom.

i face the issue, last few drops come after 5, 6 minutes....and that too in underwear.

Thanks for the reply, sorry to hear that. Thinking of injecting myself if I don't get help from a doctor soon.

Yes that happens. But I put it down to my age (78) I do have a rectal prolapse (like a big red tomato ) sorry for the description. They cannot operate as I have so much scar tissue from previous gynelogical (cant spell) operations. So I do the pelvic floor exercised and it is OK. but still have the bladder problem. We are all here in this together with various health problems, but at least the latest news is that the Haematology people have admitted that we DO need injections for Pernicious Anemia. Stay Safe.

Hi, I had bowel incontinence, was so surprised and dismayed when it happened.

I was right at the start of loading dose injections and it was a few months before it resolved.

I have to inject weekly to have any semblance of a normal life, but I have had no more bowel incontinence within the last two years.

Maybe you need more frequent injections ?

Wishing you all the best

Yes I find myself having those issues as well. I try so hard just to have a bowel movement. I eat so much fruit, enzymes, probiotics, lots of water , magnesium, just to name a few. I dont have any injections right now, can't find a diagnosis. Checked my vitamin b12 was really high. But I take vitamin b12 every day. Notice it helps me a lot.

I was about 37 when I started having cystitis out of the blue. Blood in urine, excruciating. I was put on prophylactic antibiotics for a year. I then had a cystoscopy and they found my bladder was inflamed and cracked. The cause? Menopause and oestrogen deficiency. I had bladder instillations and started HRT but still had an overactive bladder. I take tablets for that and all is well. Talk to your GP they're usually very sympathetic to bladder problems in one so young x

Yes most definitely going to talk to a doctor, thank you for your reply. And glad to hear you were able to fix it.
