Did anyone experience any side effects 24 hours after receiving an iron infusion?

Hi Lilianxious as best as I can remember going back to the early 1970s the only "side effect" was an awful "metallic" taste.
I wish you well.
I have never had an iron infusion, but yes, mild side effects are possible. healthline.com/health/iron-...
I was tired. Constipation can be a problem if not hydrated. The life cycle of red blood cells is approximately 120 days. So, once the infusion happens your chemistry works to balance and get back to correct production. I received a 1000mg infusion all at once rather than smaller increments. That was 5 years ago and my ferritin/iron/Hb have been able to maintain without intervention. (I’ve had other issues but not that). Is there something specific?
D🏃🏽♀️
I had eight weekly iron infusions for over six years and I only had a reaction after the first one, when I felt really really ill for four days, couldn't get up off floor. Whether this was coincidence and I was suffering something else at the same time I don't know but all subsequent ones were fine.
My partner has iron infusions approximately every 6 to 8 months. Afterwards he has had symptoms of feeling extremely cold and sleepy. But last few times ok. It takes at least one week afterwards for the iron to kick in. And for him to pick up. Key to having fewer symptoms afterwards is to have regular blood tests and catch anaemia early. If iron / ferritin/ haemoglobin is below 10. You need an infusion. Dont let iron drop as low as 8 or 6. Catch early. Then less likely to experience side effects. Afterwards. Or feelings of lethargy and sleepiness. Breathlessness. No energy prior to infusion. Hope this helps.
Yes! I took my first jab on a Friday and spent the weekend sleeping and with a headache that forced me staying in bed with a lot of sensibility to sounds and lights.
It gets better!
I get iron infusions about every two year depending on ferritin level. I take prednisone and benadryl for 3 days before and 2 days after the infusions. The infusions are given via a slow 4 hour drip, with a break after the first 15 minutes to make sure i'm not having a reaction and my blood pressure is okay to continue. I usually get headaches that sometimes start during the infusion and muscle aches that have lasted up to 4 days after.
Hi Lilianxious, Sorry to hear of your issues. I have iron infusions due to what they tell me is a blood loss, although no one has been able to find a cause for over five years. They assume it is GI in origin, but no proof other than seeing irritation in my stomach when they scope me. But, I digress. So I get iron infusions and yes, headaches are a common reaction for me in the first 48 - 72 hrs afterwards. Lethargy, excessive sleep, poor appetite, and generally bad mood also seem to follow me. "Insufferable Bastard Syndrome" is what my poor wife calls it! I am sure that my low Hgb, Hct, and RBC levels that follow my low iron and ferritin are also contributing factors. The headaches, in my experience will pass. I use Tylenol, or Tramadol if they get really severe. Best of luck.
