Good for you Mozza127 - the guidelines allow injections every 8 weeks so you can still keep pushing if your symptom don't improve.

I wish you well

Mozza127. As clivealive says, the BNF guidelines have recently changed to allow for B12 injections every 2-3 months. Your GP may not be aware of this and may be using a hardcopy version of the BNF that has not been updated yet - they can check the BNF online for recent updates. Here's a link to the guidelines.

(BNF B12 Deficiency: Hydroxocobalamin Treatment Regimes)

If your symptoms return before your next injection then abate once you’ve had your next jab, this is a sure indicator that you need more frequent injections. The aim is to have injections frequently enough to keep symptoms from returning between jabs. The more knowledgable GP's understand this and prescribe on that basis rather than sticking to the 'one-size-fits-all' BNF regime, so if eight weekly injections are not sufficient to keep symptoms at bay, the ask your GP if you can have them more frequently (keeping a symptom diary to monitor changes in line with injections timing may help). Unfortunately, a lot of GP's are not very knowledgable and often refuse to prescribe frequent enough injections. So, if you try eight weekly and symptoms still appear before the next injection is due, pop back for more advice if your GP is not helpful.

It's also worth noting that if you have any neurological symptoms you should be on a more intensive treatment regime - every other day until no further improvement - also listed in the BNF treatment regime in the link above (about the third or fourth paragraph down). Many GP's have never heard of this to if this applies to you, print the BNF details in the link above and take to discuss with your GP.

It's important that neurological symptoms are treated intensively to facilitate best recovery so, again, if this applies to you and your GP is not helpful, pop back for more advice.

Here's some information about treatment of neurotically symptoms:

Good luck. Let us know how you get one 👍x

Ive been on daily jabs for a long time now......I had to miss a jab but thought it would be interesting to see if I could reduce to alternate days. No. My tremors increased. Everyone is different so in your shoes I wouldnt worry about frequency - that should be determined by what keeps the symptoms the most reduced. Guidelines are just that -guidelines!!
