B12 & mannosse binding pectin deficiency??

Hi does anyone have any knowledge of B12 injections with Mannosse Binding Pectin deficiency, can it help? Would there be any negatives to trying B12? Not sure if it’s a B12 ‘NHS’ deficiency as blood levels not low enough but plenty of symptoms suggest B12 could help. Any advice welcome. Thanks

it would appear that the condition may affect your ability to fight infections leading to more frequent infections - as such it appears to be totally unrelated to B12 deficiency so unlikely that B12 would help - unless you actually do have a B12 deficiency.

If you have had serum B12 measured the test is very difficult to interpret - particularly on the basis of a single test. A downward trend overtime implies an absorption problem that will result in deficiency so needs to be treated - generally with injections for life.

There are a couple of tests that may clarify if you have a B12 deficiency though serum B12 is coming back in the normal range - MMA and homocysteine - which would come back significantly elevated - though they can be affected by other things so need to be done in a context that rules out other potential causes, eg kidney problems in the case of MMA and folate deficiency in the case of homocysteine.
