Anybody wake up multiple times a night to urinate even with cutting liquids hours before bed?
Before b12d I used to sleep through the night no problem and wake up to a super long urination. Now I wake up 2 or 3 times a night to go and it's not that much. I've read somewhere it has to do with the autonomous Nervous system not working properly after b12d. Man things are rough right now.

I generally get up and go to the loo 2-3 times a night - not really something that I associated with B12 deficiency as I am not aware that it gets any worse if I stop supplementing - not something I do intentionally though.
It doesn't really seem to be related to how much I have had to drink either.
I'm pretty sure that I used to go to the loo at least once in the night when I was younger. It isn't really something that I worry about as I don't have any problems getting back to sleep.
Hey Gambit, I have trouble getting back to sleep myself so I hope I can resolve it. Also, in order to build muscle (which is one of my goals) you want to get into REM sleep which is tough when I keep getting up. I hope I can get back to that good place I was in.
Another thing I noticed was that I started to dream again. I had years when I was at my worst when I was not aware of dreaming at all. To me dreaming again was a sign the quality of my sleep had improved.
I mentioned my constant urination to GP but they were unconcerned; I may I suppose have got a diabetes test out of them ( frequent urination can be a sign of diabetes) but can't remember.
Women can sometimes be prone to stress incontinence if they have been through childbirth.
Men can have problems if their prostrate gland is enlarged. Changes in urination should be reported to GP.
I now do not drink coffee or alcohol. Which are diuretics. When I did I didn't get up in the night . However I am on bed a lot longer now. Also I thought it was the b12 being flushed out. I'm up at least 3 times . A real test for balance as can't put the light on. Always harder in the dark. I do drink more water ??
Hi Nackapan! I've got a little glow light in a plug in a socket on my landing (en route from bed to loo) and wonder if something like that might help you?? It's only a dim glow but it takes the edge off the dark (I live in a rural area and the dark here is pretty total on a dark night!
I can't see enough to avoid spiders (!) 😲but I'm less likely to tread on an overly trusting cat!!! 😁
Yep, i was urinating more frequently during the night when deficiency was at its worse. Wasn't every night and didn't correlate to drinking more or less prior to going to bed. It's definitely eased off now that I'm feeling better and now only go once a night or not at all which is great.
For me it's much worse if my B12 isn't working properly, particularly if it's due to my mineral levels being out of kilter or sometimes if I've got too tired and upset things that way - then I can need to get up 5 or 6 times (or worse!) and sometimes may have to get up again before I actually get back to sleep!! This is torture when my only cure is sleep! And I usually get nightmares when I do too - my body's way of waking me up, which makes me feel reluctant to go back to sleep!! 🙄
Although it sounds really back to front, one way to sort the problem is to drink more volume of liquid during the day, ideally in lots of smaller sips. I now make up bottles of squash and drink from them frequently throughout the day.
This works to dilute the urine in your bladder as the need to wee is triggered by the salt concentration of your urine more than the volume of fluid in your bladder. Ironically reducing your fluid intake is inclined to make it worse, not better - although I agree the best thing is to drink more in the day and less in the evening. (However if I've got a problem it is often cured by drinking in the night too - oh the irony of it all!).
At 65F you should be drinking at least 2.5 pints a day minimum and in hotter temperatures this should be more like 4 or 5 pints a day - or even more!
Your body is mostly made up of fluid and the transport for everything relies on water so to get everything to where it should be and for optimum metabolism you need to be flushing plenty of liquid through your system.
If you can get your B12 working properly by getting and then keeping your supporting supplements balanced (a significant juggling act, I know only too well) and drink lots you will reduce the number of times that you need to get up in the night, I promise!
Hey Deniseinmilden. Yes I agree it's quite annoying. Mine is just like yours. It just doesnt make sense. I'm going to try to keep drinking more water during the day and stopping earlier before bed.
I was getting up 3 or 4 times a night at least, and leaking urine during the day. All stopped with 3 months of alternate day loading injections. Started again within 2 weeks when they stopped. I’ve been self injecting alternate days since then and have had no further problems.
Yes , regularly 3/4 times nightly, sometimes 5/6! Not so much due to amount on urine in bladder but nerve being triggered that suggests ‘bladder needs emptying’. But I have various ailments that might contribute to this...thought is was my fibromyalgia, or my hypothyroidism ( never mind diabetes) but read about other conditions which I thought I had treated including b12 deficiency( on my 12th injection...now weekly and for first time symptoms of tingling etc not returned with the week). But still feeling the need to go at night ( i’m Ok during the day), perhaps after so many years it will take ages for my body to stop doing it, if ever. It does make a mess of one’s sleep, fortunately I am retired and can sleep in.
I am thankfully perfectly ok during day, so bladder not weakened...so whether it’s solely because I have slept some then woken up without any idea what time it is or engaging brain ie is it likely bladder full?, or perhaps cos been lying down and bladder thinks it’s full as urine level horizontal, or combo...who knows. I think as b12 injections more recent then sense of urination not so obvious...but like lots of chronic health problems it can take months/years to be sure of such patterns( could for eg be summer...more swear less urine). See below you asked about increased thirst too...might be worth getting tested for blood sugar/diabetes ( which I have too!).
I used to have this problem in the time leading up to, and for a few months after, my diagnosis, and I still have to get up at least once at night even though I'm not really at risk of this problem based on age/sex. Before the problem diminished, I got as far as doing some blood tests which said I had low (undetectable actually) vasopressin, which relates to concentrating urine. The most benign possible cause of this is drinking too much water. It seems like there could be numerous direct and indirect causes linked to recovering from a B12 deficiency, including but by no means limited to excessive thirst. It did get better for me after some months, good luck to you.
I think my need to pee frequently during the night may have been associated with the B12d. It got markedly better when I first got some B12 injections but when I regressed due to being given Nitric Oxide it has not recovered as much again - so far.
