I take 5,000iu D3 regularly but I take it with vitamin K2 as it aids in the proper absorption and utilization of calcium. No side effects, ever. Most experts now recommend that K2 is needed whenever supplementing with D3.

There are many possible side effects for the other two she is taking. Here in the US, any prescription comes with a full disclosure of possible side effects in leaflet form. If she needs more information, she should probably talk to a pharmacist.

Massive doses of D3 are fine. Lots of people have absorption issues and/or are deficient so need to supplement with 10k-30k IUs. Just take lots of K2 to make sure that D3 is supported: youtu.be/83zLA7vrKR4

ChrisG123...for clarification - blanket advice that massive doses of vitamin D is 'fine' is not appropriate...vitamin D can be toxic and can cause issues for some (even when taken with vitamin K2) and especially if taken long-term, if there are other underlying health conditions, and if calcium supplements are being taken due to other underlying health conditions.

Patjamber - information about vitamin D levels and testing:

'A blood test to measure your 25(OH)D levels can tell you whether you have too high of vitamin D levels. If your 25(OH)D levels are above 150 ng/ml this is considered potentially toxic and potentially harmful to your health. You know if your 25(OH)D levels are toxic by a blood test to measure calcium. If calcium is high and 25(OH)D is high, then you are getting too much vitamin D.'

Extracted from the following link, where you will also find more information about vitamin d dosage and vitamin D toxicity (signs and symptoms etc,):

vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

Hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium caused by over supplementation with vitamin D can be very unpleasant and, indeed, dangerous. It’s also worth noting that t he potential for hypercalcemia is increased in those who take calcium supplements for other medical conditions.

Harvard medical School advises as follows: 'unless your doctor recommends it, avoid taking more than 4,000 IU per day, which is considered the safe upper limit'. Worth taking a peek at what else they say...

The bottom line is that where vitamin D deficiency is proven via blood tests, treatment is best managed by a doctor who can test levels and advise on dosage (often reducing once a proven deficiency is righted) and re-adjust doses accordingly until an appropriate maintenance dose is determined (based on an individuals medical history and need).

Where vitamin D supplements are needed in maintenance doses for the supplementing well (for instance during the winter or for those who cannot get much sunlight), it's best to stick to lower regular doses (see advice about recommended doses in the Vitamin D Council link above).
