did you mean to post this on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum?

Alcohol is generally something to avoid if you are diabetic because the sugars in alcohol are quickly metabolised.

You might be better off posting on one of the diabetes forums on HU.

Well. I think that it depends what you mean by “moderate “ . The guide lines now state that one should not drink more than 14 units of alcohol a week — same for men as women .( best google what a unit represents ); You certainly won’t want to exceed that . It would be better to drink fewer units, as you are a type 2 diabetic ( I advise you to read Dr. Michael MOSLEY’s book “The 8-week Blood Sugar Diet “ and the recipe book ) . You could get rid of your diabetes with that diet . I’m sure this isn’t what you want to hear ..But imagine how much better life could be without diabetes. . . Also I suppose you know that Metformin is one of the drugs that block the absorption of vitamin B12 , a very important vitamin . i hope that you are supplementing with vitamin b12 and a low dose folic acid tablet which works together with B12. With very best wishes .

Or you could try becoming Spanish. Where the limit for men is 35 units per week.

None of us are not going out alive..... So enjoy life as long as it last especially in retirement !! There's no time for anything else..... Tell the TRUTH, eat delicious good food, walk in the sunshine, hear the birds singing, smell the roses.......

Alcohol is sugar, so definitely a hindrance!

Right. You might get away with it for some time, but just be aware that it is a bad habit.

Sugar, alcohol, and high glycemic foods should be avoided entirely: youtu.be/NQXGXfpV9d0

Ideally, you would go the other direction and do Keto: youtu.be/NdpnAkYlWwo

\\o// THANK YOU, ChrisG123 - Very much appreciated.......

I've never followed a diet in my life ! At this stage of my life, having no other health issues, I'm tempted to control the sugar level by medication, rather than giving up on my favourite indulge of a tipple of whisky in the evening..... Enjoy life while it last, without causing undue damage to the organs, let alone reverse diabetes in what is left of my life.....
