PPI and PA testing
If, by a PA test, you mean the Intrinsic Factor antibody test then it shouldn't suffer interference from PPIs.
PPIs are one of the causes of b12 deficiency - look it up under causes on the NHS site.
I don’t want to take PPI but have almost constant burning in esophagus. I’m giving it a go for another week (it doesn’t really seem to help) and then I will stop it if no better.
Yes, I had the same and was on omaprezole for years and, as a result, became b12 deficient- over three years on I am still suffering. I live without PPI’s now and try to identify the triggers - cheese is the main one for me!
Do you avoid a lot of things? Have you tested for PA. I was told I was low on B12 and given loading injections 3 years ago. Since then I have just supplemented.
I have to be careful with cheese and go for hard varieties - cheddar is terrible for causing acid. I am a vegetarian so there’s not too many other foods that cause me a problem.
I am told on this site that low stomach acid - a potential cause of b12 deficiency- also causes acid reflux hence using a ppi to cure this makes a deficiency even more likely.
If you are going to get checked for b12, stop taking supplements in good time or you’ll get a false reading.
Good luck.
