MMA Testing and hospital appointment

Hi, I had my last injection (hydro) in September 2018 after my GP stopped injections saying it’s not pa but most likely CFS. I have hospital appointment on March 7th with rheumatology after my January appointment was cancelled 🙄

Anyway I am hoping to take as much boomf with me to the hospital as gp has made it very clear she doesn’t need to see me again 🙄 hopefully the hospital can help so I can try get a diagnosis from hospital as something isn’t right and it isn’t CFS.

I have all my blood tests copies from Drs, On all my full blood counts I’m showing I’m on the higher end of mcv and mch levels . My folate always in range too. I tested positive for partial cells but negative for IF.

Jan 18 I was low B12 of 102, November 18 I had high B12 of 1500 (injection 8 weeks prior) but wasn’t feeling right then and have declined since. Symptoms I have recorded so I can take with me to hospital including my brain fog days, down days, feeling lethargic, constipation, pins and needles (which I didn’t get before) delayed periods, also seem to be suffering terrible at the minute with restless legs at night so much so the other half has ended up in the spare bed 😬 but not sure if this is a side effect ?

I have also just ordered a private blood test for MMA, active B12, total B12, homocysteine, folate after dr refused to do it. I’m awaiting to see the results of this test but I’m wondering have a left enough time since last injection? I have been taking supplement of B12 daily also so wondering if should have stopped this before having these private bloods done 🤔

Hi joleen19832 if you have not had an injection or any other supplements since "eight weeks before November" you should be OK with the current tests.

Come back on here with the results including the ranges <From --- To> as there are folk who will be able to give you good advice.

I am not a medically trained person

I wish you well.

Thank you, I am hoping these will shed some light 🙌

If you tested positive for PCA as you said then you have PA. The medical guidance also states that testing is not needed after treatment for PA has commenced. Others on here will give you chapter and verse to quote to your doctor but I also suggest you join the PA society and call them for help. Failure to get the right treatment will make you worse. I self injject b12 everyday at the moment to try and get rid of symptoms. Good luck.

The Parietal Cell Antibody test isn’t a good indicator of PA and a fairly large proportion of people without PA will test positive.

However, in the presence of other things (low B12, symptoms of a deficiency, gastric atrophy, positive response to B12 injections) it is reinforcing evidence for PA.

I fear your supplementation will show on the test, but it’s about you getting through!! I was driven to distraction by the restless legs (as was my husband) for me magnesium was the answer for that. Good luck with your appt.... :o)
