Good day to everybody, I'm rather old for this electronic communication stuff, but I'll do my best !!

I had a serious fall in September 2017, in which I smashed the two bones either side of my right knee cap, which were replaced with titanium implants. After a couple of weeks in hospital, I was released back into the real world and into the care of a very good physio' who got me walking, albeit with a stick, which I still use.

As part of the documentation I was given on my release, I learned that I had been diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia, and would be receiving 3 monthly injections of Hydroxocobalamin "for the rest of my days"

The searching that I undertook finally led me to PAS, which I joined, only to discover that I have a problem concerning which a lot of doctors have little or no knowledge, or are in denial !!!

Currently, having studied the list of symptoms, I am aware of my toe nails turning into scales, like fish scales, and ending up in my socks when I undress for bed !!!

Can anybody advise me what to do about this problem ?

Hello. Do you think you have a toe fungal infection? If so treatment although slowe process will solve it. If not brittle nails need oil application or a rich cream may help. How awful not to be told properly about your PA. Yes general doctors do seem to know little I agree.

Hi Oldtroutfisher It is true that one of the symptoms of P.A is that the nails on both hands and feet become brittle and split or break very easily. Many patients never have to trim or cut their nails as they break off whenever they become anything other than short but I have no idea whether this continues once remedial treatment by Vitamin B12 injections is given.

I was sorry to read about your fall in 2017 - this may well have also been caused by the then undiagnosed P.A.

Are you managing to cope on the three monthly injection schedule?

I am not a medically trained person but I've had Pernicious Anaemia (one of many causes of B12 deficiency) for more than 46 years and I'm still "clivealive" aged 77.

I wish you well

Many thanks for your reply. The fall was due to an electrical problem. I was standing on the kitchen table trying to sort out the light !!!

Apart from my nails, the only other symptoms I'm aware of are that I tire easily, so whatever it is doing, 3 monthly injections seem to suit me.

Keep on taking the medication !!!
