Hi I take vitb12 TM injection 2ml once a week but have just started to come down with the really bad cold people have at work. How often would anyone with past experience recommend to inject in this situation ?

Vit C and general physio state (which reflects optimum essential vitamins) are mostly associated with common colds being reduced. Some people take a gram of Vit C daily and more depending on the body state. What a common cold is exactly is a moot point. In some cases it reflects an auto immune response; an allergic response; rheinitis response.

You need to go by symptoms.

If this is the first cold you have had since starting injections and it feels a lot worse than recent colds then it's probably because your immune system is starting to work properly again. Many of the symptoms that we associate with being unwell are actually the immune system fighting the infection - such as raised temperature, runny nose, tiredness.

B12 helps to maintain the immune system so these responses may not be as pronounced when you are deficient.

My first cold after starting B12 involved an extremely runny nose for the first time in ages. It wasn't that the cold was worse - just that I was fighting it better.

Did you increase your intake of b12 whilst having the cold? Did it make an improvement?

I didn't increase my intake of B12 - and I don't think it would have made any difference if I had.

Wow, this is actually really interesting for me to read. I’ve just had my first cold since being on B12 injections and it felt so much worse than any cold I’ve had before and it stayed around for a lot longer too. It never crossed my mind that my body was fighting harder! Thanks!

I am not a doctor. I do not know for certain that the increased response mentioned by Gambit62 is to be expected and for the reasons he/she states. But if so, it would naturally follow that the duration of the symptoms should be shorter if your immune system was "fighting harder" and working better. It sounds to me that you just had a nastier virus.

I agree as I have heard that people have it less severe and for less time hence my question if I inject more b12 when I am I'll will it speed up the healing process?

Catching a bacterial cold or a virus is normal, it is how your body deals with that matters. B12 injections are not the answer to a happy everlasting life, it helps to keep you going. These injections will give you together with many other vitamins and minerals a better chance to fight off and building up better immunity against these critters. It’s normal to feel under the weather after catching a cold, it means your body is having a fight on its hand, it helps to rest, regularly drink water, eat healthy and let your body do what is necessary.

How very apt, I am at the moment in the throes of one. I have decided I am going to call it a 'Flold' a cross between the Flu and Cold. It has been with me for over a week now and my daughter went down with it a day after me and was fine by Friday, she is on 3 monthly B12, and has been for twenty years, I inject 1mg in 1ml every 3 weeks and it feel worse today than yesterday when we went out for a gentle stroll of about a mile. Personally I wouldn't say Flu, Colds or even Flolds are any worse or better with or without B12 injections, they are just as much a bloody nuisance as they always were. If you take medication for a cold it usually lasts about 2 weeks, if you don't then it lasts 14 days. If it's flu then it's a virus so that probably lasts the same amount. One of life's little pleasures.

I swear by taking Sambucol effervescent tablets to boost your immune response, plus juice of half a lemon, honey and a small amount of dry ginger in hot water last thing at night. I don’t know that extra B12 will help.
