Hi Padeficiant12 if you really have influenza A you need 7-10 days of strict bed rest and plenty of fluids to drink. There are some antiviral treatments that the Drs can now use but you have to start them before 48 hours of the onset of influenza A. I was lucky enough to work for a while with one of the Directors of World Health who specialised in the influenzas so I learnt a lot. It attacks the muscles of our bodies and 2 of the main ones we don’t want affected are our heart and our diaphragm.
If you have had treatment & feel so much better in 1-2 days you still have to have the bed rest otherwise the virus will rebound far worse than the first time and you will probably get secondary bacterial pneumonia. We all should have the flu vaccination although it is only a 50% chance it will work as the influenza A virus mutates very quickly with other types of animals. I will be writing something about this on this forum so that people don’t automatically think that they have not got influenza A because they have had their influenza vaccination & possibly a pneumonia one as well. It’s a serious disease and the 1918 pandemic killed over 20 million people world wide, far more than has been killed in all of the world wars added together. It can also have side effects like muscular dystrophy if you don’t get that important rest plenty of fluids.
Main signs & symptoms are sudden onset (people can remember to the hour when it hit them), very high fevers which may display as cold shivers (the bodies way of lowering your temperature), aching all over and feeling very ill
& wishing you weren’t here as you feel so bad.
I know that I have never had influenza A although you can get some pretty nasty para virus’s which makes you feel very unwell.
The Drs can test you to see if you have got influenza A which is good now as it is not that many years ago when they had any treatments for viruses.
Hope this information helps you,
