Fortunately I never developed acne after starting B12 shots.
Yes, it’s a well known, albeit fairly rare, side effect of starting to rectify a B12 deficiency with injections.
Luckily, it tends to be short-lived.
This is something that I have been dealing with since I started B12 shots. I was originally going to reply to fbirder's comment "Luckily, it tends to be short-lived." with a comment that mine is not short lived. But, on reflection, it has certainly diminished over time.
Soon after beginning my loading shots I developed painful acne in my hair line, on my face, on my back and on my chest. This slowly diminished over time and now, six months later, I only have the odd one and have started shaving again.
What I do have that does not seem to be diminishing is "white spots" on my face, back, upper arms & head.
I self inject Hydroxocobalamin (Neo-B12 1000 1ml ) daily.
Prior to this I have always had good skin, to the point that I would occasionally get comments from people telling me how good my skin looked so this is rather frustrating (although a small price to pay for all the benefits that B12 gives me).
It would be nice to think that this too, will be short lived.
Thanks for sharing. A very interesting article. My B12 induced acne seems to come in batches, but does seem to be getting worse as time goes on. I’ve been SI every other day for a year now.
However, being able to live a more normal life is worth being spotty, so I try to ignore them!!
All the very best.
Thanks all for sharing!! I started SI a yr ago after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease and Pernicious Anemia and am dealing with the same problem.
My skin looks horrible, and it's all over. I've never had bad skin plus I've gained 70 pounds. 😞
On the up side, I feel so much better ... But I do ask myself if it's worth it sometimes. Of course it is. Rt? Shame everything comes with a price.
In terms of treatment, here is a page about acne written by medical experts at The Dermatology Clinic: thedermatologyclinic.london...
I hope this helps!
