Like Irene my GP will only give me an injection if my B12 falls below the range given by his lab which says levels should be between 192 and 650 and each time I feel I need an injection I get sent for a blood test. Although I have printed off the NHS, Nice and BNF guides which say 2-3 months injections and nothing on repeated blood tests to be within a certain level he refuses to budge. Is there anything in print to say that once you have been diagnosed you don't need continually testing for your B12 level as that is the only thing that would change his opinion.

How about the British Committee on Standards in Haematology - the biggest blood brains in Britain - writing in the British Journal of Haematology... onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...
They say...
Maintenance treatment for patients presenting without neurological deficit is with hydroxocobalamin 1000 lg i.m.every 3 months. Those with initial neurological deficit should receive hydroxocobalamin 1000 lg i.m. every 2 months. No further testing for cobalamin levels is required.
Angie47, if you really can't get your GP to look at the standards you could try seeing another GP, writing to the practice manager to formally request that you are treated in line with current best practice and guidelines.
Another option would be to join and contact the PAS directly as they may be able to speak to your GP and it may have more of an impact coming from an outsider that is connected to medics and researchers

There is also an area on the PAS website that is specifically aimed at helping medical professionals to improve the diagnosis and treatment of PA. You could suggest that your GP takes a look at this and signs up to the newsletter
