Hi,

Does anyone in the UK have a plan come Brexit? Without free trade we might not be able to get our B12 ampules abroad.

I don’t think we have enough information yet to make a plan. In the meantime, I’ve recently ordered supplies to last a couple of years.

If the worst comes to the worst I’ll be putting Berlin on my list of places to visit!

I'm planning on ordering a year's worth from Germany in February. Then I'm planning on spending my share of the Brexit bonus on a unicorn ride to Munich.

There are so many issues:

Current cross-border recognition of EU prescriptions will disappear;

Even if legal, companies might not continue (e.g. paperwork overheads);

Even if sent, delivery might be delayed;

Even if delivered, the medicines might not have been kept in suitable conditions (e.g. in hot sun on a motorway lorry park).

Luckily for B12, the prescriptions are not an issue, but you might well require other medicines as well. That is potentially the biggest single part of the issue for thyroid medicines.

I get my thyroid medication from a non EU country and the only problem I've had is one package being stopped by UK customs, opened, and then sent on. Delayed delivery by a week. Taught me not to leave it too late to order!

Does anybody know if a prescription is needed in Portugal?

My friends have an apartment out there. If necessary I could pop over for a couple of days every year.

in reply to fbirder

I’m here now so will ask at the Farmacia tomorrow unless you get an earlier response.

in reply to fbirder

I asked at the Pharmacy and was told I would need a prescription.

Booo!

Thanks.

I’ve just applied for German citizenship, so it’ll be easier to get there.

Strange you say that, I ordered one on Friday 🤗

I, too, have ordered two years worth in the hope that it may be sorted by then!

Looks like we're all having the same thought! I have about 40 vials left though, so the question is, when to order? If I leave it too late, there may be a shortage (because we all bought them to stock up before Brexit); too soon and I'll have many vials that might go out of date.
