As I'm new here I would love to know if anyone else get's what I can only call the 'sighs' when their levels are low, I was diagnosed with PA about 7 years ago but I have noticed that along with other symptoms when my levels are too low when I breath out I get a longer sighing sort of sound with my out breath?? does anyone else get this?

Yup flyingsolo they were commented upon by my wife many years ago at a time when I didn't even know they were a symptom.

Thanks clivealive, just been told that apparently it's called air hunger? Relieved to know it's not just me who gets it, l knew it wouldn't be but so nice to know, and hopefully more will come along.

I "lived" in ignorance for nearly 40 years as I knew no-one else who had P.A. until I joined the P.A. Society and asked on their then forum "is there anybody else who feel the need of more frequent injections in the run up to their next one?" and was amazed at the answers and NO I was not alone - ignorance is not bliss.

I wish you well.

yes I get it called air hunger it. Do sound logical but I not a doctor.if on anemic side you do need oxygen and cells not getting as much as need so I guess you would fight header to breathe. This something I pondered on and having b12 it certainly helped it only reading your post that light came on for me.It not nice as you feel half starved for air and I am asthmatic and aware of fighting to breath as opposed to trying get as much air as possible. There are other reasons for this so tell doc

Glad my post was helpful, I'm relieved to know others get this to. Did tell my GP but he didn't comment or seem concerned at all, but he never has offered anything helpful about my PA.

Hello I was diagnosed only one year ago with PA and I get that feeling like I can’t take a deep breath. The drs say I’m healthy had all checks and that is is constant panic from anxiety that I am having but I don’t feel anxiety only because I can’t take a full deep breath, they stopped my injections to see if I really have pernicious animia and I it’s been 6 months and now I have to get the test again next week to know if I will need the injections again. I definitely think it’s the PA causing this breathing issue and not anxiety. Do you have it all day?

Hi Nadia, yes, when my levels have obviously dropped too low l get it every day until l get an injection, it's horrible. Hope you get sorted out.

My GP did not recognise this as a B12 deficient symptom, but put it down to nerves.... at the time she was trying to put me on antidepressants.... I knew that I was not depressed and also that the air-grabbing happened most often just after I had spent time sitting indoors or in a car (not always true but mostly)- eg. when I had spent 2 hours on the computer in the library.

Supermarkets also seem to make me grab air, usually by the time I am in the checkout queue, it's a bit bad. Usually people look over at me and smile. It does sound weird: overlapping air-gulps like heavy sighing. People who know me are used to it now and take no notice. Doesn't bother me now, it's just one of those things and I get it often. There are a lot worse symptoms to have, at least it doesn't hurt. Not sure my employer likes it when it happens in meetings, haha.
