A test for Intrinsic Factor antibodies, If positive, is a great indicator of PA. But it give too many false negatives, so a negative result doesn’t rule it out.
A test for Parietal Cell antibodies is a fair indicator of PA. But it gives too many false positives, so a positive result doesn’t prove PA. A negative result is a good indicator that you don’t have PA.

Low serum B12 (or active B12).
My diagnosis of PA was made with a combination of low B12, positive Gastric Parietal Cell antibodies and Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy.
So there is some relationship between IF antibodies and PC antbodies? Otherwise how can a negative PC have any influence on the IF test? Surely a negative PC test tells you you probably dont have PA because of PC antibodies but the chances of having IF antbodies remains exactly the same?
