Leg pain
Hi Ann-e did you mean to post this in the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation community?
As Clive says, you really need to ask this in the diabetes forum.
However, I do have some experience with neuropathic pain (although it’s not caused by diabetes or B12 deficiency).
The most common drugs given are anti-epileptics (gabapentin and pregabalin) or anti-depressants (most commonly amitriptyline). Despite being developed for other conditions they do work for neuropathic pain where other common analgesics do nothing.
I take gabapentin (300 mg three times a day) and it keeps the pain down to a reasonable level. When it doesn’t, and my pain is particularly bad, keeping me awake at night, I can take codeine - but not for more than three nights running.
However, I’ve not needed the codeine for many months. Not since I’ve started taking alpha lipoic acid (600 mg, three times a day).
I’m also trying to use cannabidiol (vaping it). But it doesn’t seem to be doing much at all.
