Hi Shirley7144

A wiser person than I has posted this comment.

B12 Side effects

The pimples/acne, is likely to be caused by microbes on your skin reacting to the additional B12 by producing substances that your skin is then reacting to. In theory this could be resolved by use of a good skin wash. You might have better luck talking to your pharmacist and seeing what they can recommend prior to your next maintenance shot - though there is always a chance that it was something that won't recur

I hope this helps.

I'm not medically trained.

Hi Shirley7144- is there a 'trigger' when the itching begins? I used to have what my family called 'itchy blobs' (urticaria ) when I experienced a change in temperature. Even in summer if a cool breeze came I would be 'blobby'. The only solution from my then GP and the Consultant, was to take high doses of antihistamines which I didn't want to take (and it didn't prevent the urticaria only made it slightly less itchy). Initially I was given amitriptyline (+Gabapentin), by the pain clinic, for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome following a broken wrist - the itching/urticaria stopped, but then returned when the CRPS improved and i stopped taking the Amitriptyline, i didn't make the connection until i was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and prescribed Amitriptyline once again and the 'itchy blobs' are under control once again. It's just a thought but perhaps you are experiencing an allergic reaction to something.

Hi Shirley,

After a B-12 shot with folate, I woke up with severe itching on my legs. My doctor said it could be my body adjusting and to take niacin if it occurred again. It didn’t, but since I am prone to atopic dermatitis, I try to limit foods that are high in histamines which can make symptoms worse.

You might try keeping a food diary to find out if you have specific triggers:

There was also a study a few years ago that suggested that Vitamin D supplementation could help:
