Im confused! B12 still causing awful acne 6 months after loading dose. Do I need more or less frequent injections?

Hi all,

I was diagnosed in sept 2017 with a b12 reading of 137.

I had 6 injections over 2 weeks and have since been having an injection every 10-12 weeks.

By week 4-5 I start to struggle with a fuzzy head, wanting to sleep for 15 hours a day, confusion, tripping over, snappy mood.

Since my loading dose I began with small lumpy spots on my forehead, over the last 6 months, the spots on my fore head, chin and now cheeks have turned into uniformed pimples and spots which aren't under the skin and itchy.

From reasearching I'm aware that this is the homocysteine leaving my body and is a good thing.

Some people have mentioned the spot and won't go away because I'm not having enough b12. Others have said it could be a reaction and to stop the injections. The thought of stopping the injections is a dreadful thought as I know I need them for my health however I need some sort of help with my skin.

Others have said to stop eating food with b12 in? I'm very confused?

The spots have severely knocked my confidence and has made me want to stay inside.

Can anyone help? Thanks

Hello Luzzell30. Well this is extraordinary! Like you I have just finished a loading course of 7 injections of B12 (cyanocobalomin). And like you the main result has been acne - in my case on the back of my head, neck and chin. Since I have not had acne for more than 20 years I can only assume that it is a side effect of the B12 injections. I was going to post something myself about this but it seemed rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and also i was not sure about the connection - until now! I know nothing about this business of acne as a good sign of reducing homocysteine: do you think you could send me some info on this? In general, are there other people out there who have had severe acne following B12 injections, and does anyone know why?

I got lots of spots when I first had jabs.

Eventually, with enough B12 (which for me is daily jabs and supporting supplements) they went.

If something goes wrong with my B12 - problems getting it from the Drs to start with, once a forgotten jab or mostly poor metabolism due to not getting my supporting supplements in balance - then I get them again once my B12 is working again for a few days until it seems to clean up my system, which supports the homocysteine theory.

I've got so I almost welcome them if I've had a rough patch because it means things are working again and if I can carry on like that I'll feel better soon!

But you do have my sympathy - not least because they hurt!

I find the same but it does improve I've been having jabs for about 18 months now and don't get the acne as often or as severely (it seemed to be constant to begin with). I find mine are along the edges of my hairline, forehead, chin and chest it does make you so self conscious. After much experimenting I have found a charcoal face scrub has really helped, I have one by biore.

I definitely wouldn't be reducing jabs if your symptoms are returning after a few weeks the damage you could be doing may be far more serious than being spotty - I do feel your pain though I never used to wear make up to work but sometimes have no choice.
