Pounding head

Everyday at around 7-8 pm I start to feel extremely tired and notice my heartbeat is more pronounced, and I feel it in my neck, shoulders and head. Has anyone had any similar symptoms. I have already had an mri and have no malformations.

Are you supplementing with any vitamins? What time of day do you take them?

Are you keeping a logbook of your food, drink and meds?

Alcohol related? Caffeine related? Stress related?

Pvanderaa Yes I am taking methyl a few times p er day. Add well I am taking an iron supplement each three times per day. I don't keep a log. And no alcohol. I do have caffeine in the morning but never after 12 pm

Are drinking enough fluids throughout the day? I often wake up with a pounding head which I think is due to going around 9 or 10 hours without taking in anyour fluids (I sleep 9 - 10 hours a night). As soon as I wake up in have a glass of water and my pounding head subsides within 15 - 20 minutes. It might be unrelated but it works for me!

I have at least 2 if not 3 liters a day so I don't think it is liquids related. I'm actually wondering if it may be related to muscle tension

I had very bad headaches near the end of the day, at the time I knew my fluid intake was ok, went to a chiropractor, I had changed my job role slightly and doing more physical work (loading wheelchairs into boot of car and raising chairs and beds etc.) chose the chiropractor as they do xrays prior to treatment and did not want to spend the time required going through GP, and maybe never getting sent on to anyone. After she had taken a full history, had my neck xrayed, turned out she needed to send me on for a bone density test, I did have thining bones and had done damage from lifting to upper spine and neck. A combination of gentle treatment from her and advice about bets way to "brace" the neck area whilst I was lifting, meant I lost the horrible headache problem and could keep my job. High levels of stress would cetainly affect the neck in the same way, sensible shoulder and neck exercises and relaxation might be a start, at least cannot do any harm!! Good luck

Because the gut is involved in the B12 deficiency, there is a delay from the cause to the onset of a symptom. This delay can range from 3 hours to 48 hours and may repeat 24 hours later.

The stomach juices/nutrients/drugs and bile combine in the small intestine and are absorbed and passed to the liver via the “portal vein”. The liver filters most of the stuff out and dumps it, via the bile, back into the gut. The blood from the body is also filtered to get rid of metabolic byproducts and toxins from the body. Some of the blood from the portal vein is mixed with the blood from the body and passed back to the body for production of energy and reproduction within each cell of the body. This is how B12 gets to the body.

This loop of bile, gut, portal vein, liver, bile is called the “hepatic loop” and is the storage mechanism for B12 in the body. It loops continuously but takes about 24 hours to make one pass around the loop.

If you get the same symptom every day about the same time, there is strong possibility that the cause is looping around the hepatic loop as well.

For me, a symptom would be getting brain fog 24 hours after eating gluten or dairy contaminated food. It last a few hours until I have a bowel movement and get rid of a remaining gluten in my gut. But the brain fog/headache symptom returns the next day as well.

If you injest the causing thing about the same time every day, say it is your favorite breakfast, you reinforce the cause in the loop and it repeats again the following day and the next.

The logbook helps sort the causes out from the symptoms. You then can start experimenting with your food and drink to see what symptoms disappear.

If you suspect a particular item, say the toast at breakfast, or maybe the butter on the toast, stop eating it (ie butter) completely, from every meal, for 2 weeks to detoxify the hepatic loop.

Then reintroduce it once and monitor your symptoms for 48 hours. You become your own guinea pig of experimentation.

For me, a headache is usually related to injesting MSG (mono sodium glutamate). It is a “natural flavouring” used in a lot of prepared meals to improve the taste. Packaged soups, flavored crisps as well as breakfast sausages are full of MSG.

But MSG is a soya based product and, by using the logbook method, I’ve also found out that any soya ingredient will give me a headache.

Hopefully this gives you a tool to help you get back some control on your unique situation.

Very intersting. It seems now the symptoms have changed a bit and I nowbjust have a strong beating heart, that is uncharacteristic. I stopped taking the b12 supplements to see I'd that was causing the heart beat issue, but after 2 days it's still.there. I'm wondering If this is clearly a muscles lacking oxygen situation.

When the body gets B12 after being deficient, every process that has been blocked by the lack of B12 starts up at once and floods the blood stream with metabolic byproducts.

It takes a while for the liver and kidneys to clean up the blood.

Repair of nerve damage also starts after the excess homocysteine, that has been eating away at the myelin sheath is processed off.

One long nerve that goes from the brain to the stomach is the Vagus nerve. Stronger signals on this nerve can be interpreted by the brain as hunger or even pain. I get ravenous about 3 hours after my B12 injection. I consider this a “good” symptom to indicate that the nerve is being repaired.

Similar things could be interpreted for the cardiac nerves. I get an apparent thumping heart beat a few minutes after falling asleep. I wake in a panic.

I’ve found this to be an illusion as the heart is not racing. By taking my pulse, I know that the heart is pumping normally. As I feel the pulse in my fingers on the hand taking the pulse, I can convince my brain that everything is okay and the panic slowly subsides.

This doesn’t happen every time I fall asleep and doesn’t recur when falling back to sleep after I have calmed down. So it has something to do with the B12 injection and the subsequent nerve repair.

Take your pulse at your arm and make sure the heart is not racing away. If it is “normal “, you may be experiencing a similar illusion symptom.

Widespread Muscle Pain after the B12 injection is another illusion type (good) symptom. The healing nerves send stronger signals to the brain, it can only interpret them as pain, until it can recalibrate, which takes about 3 days.

Getting out of bed and getting moving seems very hard due to the muscle “pain”.

Stress and worry about this type of pain seem to make it appear worse.

Getting moving and pacing oneself and gentle exercise seem to help the brain figure out that the pain is not real. Working through the pain is another way to help get things sorted.

Also telling yourself that the pain is an illusion helps your brain accept the stronger signals and recalibrate faster.

Well pounding head is gone and now solely resides in my chest and abdomen. It does give me a rattle, as it almost feels like pressure in my chest. Since a week ago, when I got my injection the tingling in hands and feet all but disappeared. Now just the chest issue. I'm contiueing to use sublingual to keep the b12 on the rise in hopes that this chest tension disappears. To be honest I don't knownif it's heart related or connected to the neck and shoulder musculature. Thoughts?

Are you taking any Folate ?.....it could help with palpitations.

I have started taking folic acid supplement in the last week and it is starting to get better

You can only buy 400iu Folic Acid but that is very low strength. When I had problems gp prescribed me 5mg. That is more than 12 x 400iu tablets.

I currently take 5 x 400iu which makes 2mg. I’m going to ask gp for 5mg.

I think it’s not harmful as docs give pregnant women 5mg.
