Just asking a question - when you are due your injections do you get a buzzing in your head and dreadful memory? I am trying to push for two monthly injections and am pretty sure that the above is due to PA. How can I advise my nurse that I need the injections more often in the best way? I have just finished 3 months of high dose iron tablets too (bleh hate them) but I do feel better except the buzzing, memory and obviously the tiredness when I pass the 2 month point. I have just joined PAS so hopefully, will be more informed
Fuzzy head: Just asking a question... - Pernicious Anaemi...
Fuzzy head
Mention any neurological problems which buzzing and memory is to et 2 monthly at least. Best to put in writing. Then have consult on phone.
Ask your nurse to read the British National Formulary entry for hydroxocobalamin (or print it out from here - bnf.nice.org.uk/drug/hydrox... ) and ask her to read the section
Pernicious anaemia and other macrocytic anaemias with neurological involvement
Where she will see it says -
Initially 1 mg once daily on alternate days until no further improvement, then 1 mg every 2 months.
It definitely sounds like you need more frequent jabs. Good luck with getting them.
I went through this too. She wanted to give me drugs for depression but all i needed was more frequent injections. We brought info with us that explained how hydroxocobalamin was water soluble and it is not possible to overdose on b12. She then agreed to me having it every 8 weeks as a "placebo effect". Never felt better even though she made out I was depressed and weird and made me question own mental health.
