I was recently diagnosed with PA at a level of 120. I had six booster injections over 2 weeks and didn’t feel a lot of difference in myself although i was told i would feel almost ecstatic but the fog became lighter, my swollen tongue which i bite and cut quite often went to a normal size (what a relief). Having to fight with fatigue and sleeping seemed to subside. My wife threatening to devorce me because I was moody and lazy was in the past, so I thought. Now just two weeks after the last booster Injection, I feel unwell again and all the symptoms have returned. I have 10 weeks to go before my next injection, what can I do. Please help!

Hi Themabinogion according to the N.I.C.E guidelines loading doses should "continue until there is no further improvement" in neurological symptoms which include those you mentioned above so one option would be to list them and go back to your doctor asking for the injections to continue.

Click on the link, then on "Scenario: Management" and scroll down.

You should also push for "maintenance" shots every 8 weeks according to the abo9ve

It is not uncommon for some symptoms to appear to get worse before they get better as the B12 starts repairing the damage done to your nervous system and your brain starts getting multiple messages from part of the body it had "forgotten about" or lost contact with.

I sometimes liken it to a badly tuned radio on which you have turned the volume up high trying to catch the programme you want when all of a sudden the signal comes in loud and clear and the blast nearly deafens you.

A lot will depend on the severity and longevity of your B12 deficiency as to how long before there is no further improvement or recovery. Some symptoms will "disappear" quite quickly whereas others may take months or even years. There is no set timescale as we are all different.

If you can get to see a doctor please also ask him/her to check your Folate level as this and B12 you've had injected help your iron to make red blood cells and to function properly.

I am not a medically trained person but I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.

I wish you well

Many thanks Clive for information and advice. You wrote this for me a month ago but unfortunately I didn’t see it or I would have been to the surgery earlier. I’ll try to see the doctor on Monday. All my symptoms have returned including the fog and going into deep sleeps several times a day. I can’t look for a job the way I am. Thanks again

Please ask your wife to put her anger to good use and go to doctors office with you to demand more frequent injections until no further improvement, for her physically ill spouse.

I thought i was lazy and unreasonable prior to injections. I was ill.

Having enough b12 is imperative to feeling well. If doctor wont budge, then she can order supplies (difficult to do on your own when dealing with brain fog, memory and concentration issues) to inject in your home.

Best of luck and health
