Are you applying a swab to the injection site and applying a decent amount of pressure for about a minute? That should stop it or at least slow it down. Check your technique.

Hi margareta12321 I'm sorry to read this.

Are you a bit hesitant self injecting? What part of your body do you inject?

Could it be the needle is a bit too large?

I'm not medically trained and don't self inject but I've had over 600 into my upper arms during the past 46 years and incidence of bleeding is very rare but when it did happen it was never a worry - apart from what my wife would say about my shirt sleeve.

It never hurts and was fine before I use a fine needle. The blood is enough to soak 2 tissues and leaves a lump and a dark bruise.

I use a very fine needle to inject into my thigh 1” and 25 gauge . After injecting , I do press on the injection site and massage it for a while . I hardly ever have even a spot of blood .

the blood indicates that you are hitting a vein. Not sure precisely what you mean by 'a fair amount of blood'. It might form a small bubble - if it is more than that then it sounds as if your platelets might be a bit low.

Its enough to run down my leg and go t hrough several tissues.Sometimes there's a lump and a dark bruises. It was fine before so don't know why.Would low platelets cause this?

margareta, please note that I am not medically qualified - and I think that you really need to consult someone who is medically qualified if the bleeding is that severe.

if you are hitting a vein then your platelets would need to be really bad for that amount of blood to be involved. The bruise is just bleeding under the skin and the lump is probably just pooling of blood (and the B12) under the skin prior to clotting.

How long does the bleeding last? If there is enough to be running down your leg almost immediately after you remove the needle then that suggests that there is something else going on.

Are you injecting intramuscular or sub-cutaneously? There is a risk of hitting an artery if you inject IM.

I'm not entirely sure what the consequences would be of hitting an artery - but I would expect that to involve more blood than hitting a vein

IM on my thigh.I think I'll ask my son as I haven't told him its happening. As soon as I remove the needle it pours out wasn't sure if this was normal or not. Thanks Gambit for your advice.

Hello margareta, I have a few questions to gather a bit more information on your case. Do you find that you bruise easily otherwise (not during self injection)? Are you noticing that small cuts or scrapes will continue to bleed or ooze blood for an extended period? Do you feel lightheaded or abnormally fatigued?

Hi Lab lady,I haven't noticed any unusual bruising and haven't cut myself recently. It comes out fast and bleeds for several seconds before becoming raised and hard leading to a large bruise. It neve happened. To start with but started a few months ago.Ive been injecting twice a week maybe I should try cutting it down.
