Will Cyanocobalamine be OK?

I ordered Cyanocobalamine sublingual 1000 mcg by mistake and they have been despatched. Will they be OK or should I send them back and order methylcobalamin? These are my first B12 supplements. My MMA test came back negative but I want to try supplementing with B12 to see if it makes a difference.

Hi Tricot they should be fine. The amount of 1mg of cobamalin in cyanocobamalin is the same as in Methyl or Hydroxo.

Do you know what your Folate level is as this and B12 help your iron to make red blood cells and to function properly in your body?

Symptoms of B12 deficiency tend to develop slowly and may not be recognised immediately. As the condition worsens, common symptoms include:

Weakness and fatigue

Light-headedness and dizziness

Palpitations and rapid heartbeat

Shortness of breath

A sore tongue that has a red, beefy appearance

Nausea or poor appetite

Weight loss

Diarrhoea

Yellowish tinge to the skin and eyes

If low levels of B12 remain for a long time, the condition also can lead to irreversible damage to nerve cells, which can cause the following symptoms:

Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet

Difficulty walking

Muscle weakness

Irritability

Memory loss

Dementia

Depression

Psychosis

Do you have any of the above?

I am not a medically trained person but I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.

I wish you well

Thank you for your reply. I don't have any of the symptoms in the first list but several in the second so It's probably not lack of B12 that's causing my symptoms. But I think for optimum health it may help me to have more B12 in my system. My folic acid was in the bottom quarter of range and I'll be getting more of that from the homocystein modulator I've ordered. Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Tricot - the only contra-indication to cobalamin is a rare genetic disorder called Leber's syndrome.
