Is this a good idea?

Having first three monthly after loading tomorrow and finished prescribed folic acid a couple of weeks ago. Have been taking a berocca tablet every morning which contains folic acid. Was thinking of taking a folic acid tablet every morning (cheap supermarket) from Thursday for a week or so just to keep levels high . Is this a good idea?

many of us supplement folic acid as well as B12 - doses from a supermarket supplement aren't going to be a problem. Food is the best source of folate but if you have a problem with absorbing B12 then that may affect your ability to absorb folate and other vitamins and minerals as well

shouldn't be a problem - but as ever - this forum is a substitute for professional medical advice - if you can't talk to your GP about things at least talk to a pharmacist.

Hi,

Think Gambit62 meant to say this forum is not a substitute for professional medical advice.

Sadly, all too often this forum actually is a substitute for professional medical advice which is so often lacking or inadequate.

But , sleepybunny, I think this forum IS a wonderful substitute for professional advice where Pernicious Anaemia is concerned . The professionals I spoke to concerning P.A. had no real knowledge .In fact they were totally ignorant and weren't prepared to be anything else . I shall be eternally grateful to the help I had from this forum . If I had stayed with the "professionals" , I dread to think in what sort of state I would be now !

Hi Av42 personally I have taken 1 – Folic Acid 400μg tablet for more years than I can remember but then I've been on B12 injections for P.A. for 46 years

As well as your having increased Folate via your vegetables you may also find folic acid fortified into your breakfast cereals.

I wish you well and bid you goodnight

You're still around, clivealive , to check on people, so it must be working !

Keep up the good work !

I still take my folic acid tablets daily, but the multivits & minerals tablets had to go because they stunk the house out !

I find I get very windy when I take the tablets so think I may just take for a week or so as seem less full of gas from eating a pile of sprouts than from a tiny tablet and just have them now and again if feeling overly tired . Thanks for reply.
