I think I have his name right.

He was researching, so I recall, the impact of bacterial imbalance, rather than SIBO, on B12 malabsorption in the ileum.

Does anyone happen to know where he got to with this and how far off his research paper might be?

Is this the study you mean? Looks like you could email him.

Absolutomondo- wow! Any results at yet, this may be my only explanation, if resolved by Symprove? Although pain resolved, it would be great if this resolved B12 too and on a long term basis.

My revised name created a repost - apologies.

Thanks Foggyme. I don’t want to delete the one that is best, so in the circumstances I would be happier if you deleted the duplicate that might cause confusion.

Okay. No problem. I'd better get it right then 😉

Goodness...thank you Hidden .

But wouldn't it be so good if none of this was necessary 😉.

Hopefully I’ll hear from him shortly. I’ve emailed him. FYI my GP is now amazingly tuned in to B12, current research and chronic fatigue plus the ability to have high serum B12 whilst suffering B12 deficiency. Hallelujah! Mind you, out of all GP’s, I have always trusted this one.

That's fantastic news GGourmet. Wish it was something we heard more often. Much more often 😇.

Well done you...and your GP.

Hi GGourmet , I know this post is 6 months old now but I'm hoping you can help me since I've only just read it....

This research that you mentioned seems to have disappeared from the link given by Curlygal and I would really like to see it. I have tried using search on name given and subject but got nowhere. Any ideas on how I could access this ?

Have had a Lactulose breath test because of raised MMA levels (although not very high, unexpected when having such regular B12 injections)- so checked for SIBO- results : could be either SIBO or "fast transit" - so then Gastroscopy: flattened mucosa in duodenum- awaiting biopsy results for possible Coeliac disease. I am B12, vitamin D, ferritin, folate and now possibly protein deficient, although supplementing and diet fine, so you can see why I'm interested.... believe we have noted a few things in common previously.

Really glad to hear your GP is onside, and wondering if Professor John Hooper ever got back to you. Also would be good to hear how you are doing and what your current thinking is re. your own condition. Hoping this finds you very well indeed !

I’m sorry to say that despite 3 attempts to make contact, I’ve never heard anything. It’s concerning that the link no longer works. I know that the PAS was partly or wholly funding the test, from memory. It might be worth as email or telephone call to them.

As far as where we go to from here, I’m not certain. Every now and then I rattle the cage.

CPD is a major issue with GPs. I got the BMA CPD guidance and was a little shocked. I’ll dig it out and post it here, one day.

I'll try the PAS, GGourmet - thanks for that. Also for promptitude, and if that's not a word, it should be ! Say "promptness" out loud and hear how wrong it sounds.

In the absence of any results so far, this link may be informative. I had and possibly still have C. Diff.
