Blood Pressure ?

Does anyone e know if there is a connection between high blood pressure and B12 deficiency or PA ? I have days when my blood pressure is very low as in 115/74 and other days it can be 160/100. Doctor has said it's stress and anxiety causing high spikes and has said I am unsuitable for blood pressure meds because my blood pressure goes so low

I read your previous post where you mentioned you had *normal* results for your thyroid. Do you have the results to hand - with the ranges. Some of your symptoms could also be low thyroid as others have suggested. Did you have the Thyroid anti-bodies tested to rule out Hashimotos ?

Blood pressure can also be affected by thyroid hormones too.

I honestly have no idea if I had thyroid antibodies tested. I really don't know anything at all about any of this it's all new to me

My thyroid results are:

FT4 14.21 pmol/L

TT4 102.3 mmol/L

TSH 0.947 mlu/L

FT3 3.87 pmol/L

TGAB 10.52

TPOAB 10.53

Your anti-bodies were tested - last two on the list above ! They are fine 😊 Your FT4 & FT3 look low in range - ranges do vary from lab to lab so do post them if possible. Your TSH also low. With my Thyroid UK hat on I would suggest Central Hypothyroidism rather than Primary. This involves Pituitary issues where it is not responding to low blood levels of thyroid hormones. It does of course depend on ranges. 😊

I don't know the ranges Marz, I did look on the results page but didn't see where it said what the ranges were. I had the test done at Medichecks

Ranges are the figures after the result :

TSH 1.35 ( 0.5 - 5.00 )

If you post your results on the Thyroid UK Forum here on HU people will comment and will have heloful information.

B12 is involved in recycling homocysteine into a useful building block - if it builds up it affects the cardiovascular system and can lead to high blood pressure. However, this would be a consistently high reading rather than intermittently high blood pressure.

There are a lot of things that will affect blood pressure and it is highly responsive to changes in anxiety and stress levels - as the heart tries to deliver more oxygen to muscles in preparation for flight or fight - and heart rate will also be raised.

Similarly levels will be raised by exercise.

That doesn't detract from the fact that one of the symptoms of B12 is a greater susceptibility to stress and more anxiety.

Hi Gambit, you answered a similar question a few weeks ago with the same answer. Is there any 'official document' to support. As my gp refuses to acknowledge that my consistantly high bp, despite a veritable concoction, has anything to do with b12. They as a practice refuse to treat any differently other than quarterly. I even ask if she would give me my dose a month early so i could monitor my bp levels afterwards but she refused.

not exactly conclusive but this article discusses the role of homocysteine in cardiovascular problems

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

this paragraph from the later part of the article would seem to be particularly relevant

Homocysteine has been positively associated with both diastolic and systolic blood pressure. In case of homocysteine concentration increase of 5 μmol/L (about 1 SD), diastolic and systolic blood pressure in men increased by 0.5 and 0.7 mmHg, respectively [21]. In case of women, the correlation of homocysteine and blood pressure was stronger, with 0.7 and 1.2 mmHg increase in diastolic and systolic blood pressure, respectively [21].

21 is a cross reference to this article

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/124...

Thanks for that Gambit, and sorry to have sort of hijacked your post Spellweaver, it sort of seemed relevant.

115/74 is a normal BP although a big drop from 160/100. I suffer from anxiety too (but better than I was) and mine is about 115/74 when relaxed but will jump up to 140/90 when stressed. One time I was extremely agitated last year it was 199/102! I am still alive thankfully 😀
